Sony Pictures Entertainment and Marvel Studios announced today that Sony is bringing Marvel into the amazing world of Spider-Man.

Under the deal, the new Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel film from Marvel's Cinematic Universe (MCU). Sony Pictures will thereafter release the next installment of its $4 billion Spider-Man franchise, on July 28, 2017, in a film that will be co-produced by Kevin Feige and his expert team at Marvel and Amy Pascal, who oversaw the franchise launch for the studio 13 years ago. Together, they will collaborate on a new creative direction for the web slinger. Sony Pictures will continue to finance, distribute, own and have final creative control of the Spider-Man films.

Marvel and Sony Pictures are also exploring opportunities to integrate characters from the MCU into future Spider-Man films.

"I am thrilled to team with my friends at Sony Pictures along with Amy Pascal to produce the next Spider-Man movie," said Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. "Amy has been deeply involved in the realization on film of one of the world’s most beloved characters. Marvel's involvement will hopefully deliver the creative continuity and authenticity that fans demand from the MCU. I am equally excited for the opportunity to have Spider-Man appear in the MCU, something which both we at Marvel, and fans alike, have been looking forward to for years."

Spider-Man, embraced all over the world, is the most successful franchise in the history of Sony Pictures, with the five films having taken in more than $4 billion worldwide.

Hell yeeeeeeeeeeeeeah!

This is awesome man. I can't to see what they do with a Spidy, Ironman, and Cap conversation. My body is ready man! W000tz!

Marvel Studios still don't own the movie rights to Spidy, but Sony and Marvel would just work together. Sony still has final creative control of him, but it's still freakin' awesome that they are doing this. Now all we need is the Fantastic Four.

I hope they don't do another origin movie with Spidy in his next movie. He doesn't need it.

I'm okay with it. I liked him as Spiderman, I don't like him as Peter Parker.

I'm on record as not liking Garfield's Spidey, but I would have no problem giving him another shot with Marvel studios in charge. But I doubt he crosses over with the character.

So does this mean the Black Panther gets bumped from the Civil War now? I'm sure that'll go down well.

Spiderman is poorly represented in the movies. Spidey is capable of swinging tanks with one arm.

They may be casting someone else for the role of Spider-Man.

Black Panther will still play a major role in both events of Avengers 2: Age Of Ultron and also Captain America 3: Civil War. Spider-Man will serve as an introduction.

While I'm happy that Spiderman will join the Marvel movies (undoubtedly starting with Civil War, which needs him) I'm a bit worried about Marvel Universe characters showing up in a Sony movie... That will likely be the death of the MCU.

I can just see the Hulk's head reverting to Bruce Banner for a five minute conversation in the middle of a battle.

Sounds almost too good to be true. I hope they keep Garfield and the costume from Amazing Spider-Man 2. If not Garfield, at least the costume

Personally they need to use this costume, produced by Tony Stark:

It doesn't, but...come on.

I could see him used in the defenders movie (or some other soon to come train wreck) to sell tickets.

The civil war arc occurs a year before the next spiderman movie is going to be released. (may 6th 2016 vs. july 28 2017)

So if he's going to be in an "avengers" movie it will be the final arc involving Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet....which is stupid because spiderman adds nothing of value to a cosmic battle.

Time to start the fan-casting. Who do you guys want as the new Spider-Man?

I think Dylan O'Brian would be a pretty good choice. Hell, maybe even Donald Glover. He's black, but whatever. I don't mind.

Donald Glover would make a interesting spidy. He's black tho. I wouldn't mind it if they put him as Miles Morales than Peter Parker, even though Miles is half latino.

How about Daniel Radcliffe?

I wouldn't want Radcliffe. I think his Spidey would be very similar to Tobey Maguire's.

Some people like his performance, but I don't really.

Spider Man without Peter Parker (white) doesn't make a whole lotta sense.

I always thought James Franco would've been a pretty decent Peter Parker.

funny how spiderman is so boss that his arrival bumped all the other movie release dates. Spidey's like "get the **** outta my timeslot bitaches" I guess it makes sense since he is the most popular superhero character of all time.

By more boss, do you mean more popular with 10 year olds? That is the real reason Spider-man movies make more money than the other Marvel movies, because for every 10 year old that wants to see the movie, they drag at least 1 parent with them.

This is great news AS LONG AS THERE IS NOT ANOTHER ORIGIN STORY/REBOOT.

And please don't screw the casting.. I don't mind if they brought Maguire back, but just don't ruin it with some scrub.

This is great news AS LONG AS THERE IS NOT ANOTHER ORIGIN STORY/REBOOT.

They need to do it similar to Batman (1989) in the sense that Spider-man is already established, but his origins are eluded to through brief flash backs. He needs it clarified for the MU, but I think pretty much everybody will agree with you that we don't need another elaborate retelling of his origins.

Wall Street Journal also reporting Spidey will first appear in Civil War (http://www.wsj.com/articles/marvel-and-sony-reach-deal-on-spider-man-movie-production-1423546677)

The two companies said late Monday that Spider-Man will appear in an upcoming Disney-produced Marvel super-heroes movie; that movie is 2016’s “Captain America: Civil War,” according to a person with knowledge of the matter.

Marvel will then co-produce the next solo Spider-Man movie financed by Sony Pictures, which will be released in 2017 and feature a new version of the web-slinger.

I'm so excited, love me some Spider-Man. I think he will breath new life into the MCU after Age of Ultron. I misread the article OP posted and thought that this new Spider-Man reboot would still be a sequel to the two Amazing Spider-Man movies being fully produced by Sony. Really, Marvel Studios have most creative control of the movie, with Sony just getting some cash out of it.

He means more popular globally.

There was a thread here in December that showed Spider-man is worth like $1.2 billion, while the 2nd closest Batman makes just $400 mil. That big of a gap.

From Reddit:

I swear to God if the post-credits of Avengers: Age Of Ultron is Tony Stark giving a lecture at a high school about the importance of not giving into your own ego and thinking of yourself too highly and providing why Ultron failed... only to be interrupted by an incredibly insightful response back at him about why Ultron actually failed with Tony asking who the young man is... pan the camera around to Peter Parker sitting next to Gwen & MJ in the background responding to him. I'll lose my mind.

Yes.

Yes.

I think the role will be given to Logan Lerman or Dylan O'Brien. Young guys, on the rise and they have the right looks for Spidey imo...

Last night saw the news of Spider-Man being a part of the Marvel movie universe with the news Spidey set to appear first in a Marvel Studios movie followed by a Sony solo film.

The news also made mention that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige would be onboard the new Spider-Man as a producer.

Now details regarding the Sony and Marvel deal have apparently come to light as Variety offers the following details:

It's actually said to be a "free" deal as Marvel Studios won't have to pay Sony for the use of Spider-Man in Captain America 3, an Avengers movie or any other film.

It's also reported Marvel won't be receiving a cut of the box office from Sony's Spider-Man movies, and also that Sony will not be getting anything for the Marvel movies.

It is said Marvel may benefit from the Sony Spider-Man films if the new Spider-Man movies hit certain box office milestones, with that deal being likened to more of a producer structure.

How the deal benefits both sides is that Spider-Man gives both Sony and Marvel a way to generate more exposure for their properties as Spider-Man is one of the biggest household superhero names.

The report also states that Spider-Man will be recast, and they are looking for a younger actor to play the role as Spider-Man will have his roots set in high school.

It's further said that Kevin Feige will not be involved with the planned Spider-Man spinoffs, Sinister Six, Venom, and the female-centric Spider-Man spinoff, which are still on the table.

Captain America: Civil War has a May 6, 2016 release; the new Spider-Man movie is set for July 28, 2017.

I doubt it. I think I read that he's still going to be in it, but now he might not get as much screen time. I've seen some people get pissed off about this, but it's not like this is just any random superhero. It's ****ing Spider-Man. This is probably the biggest game-changer for the MCU that you can imagine, aside from them somehow getting all the Fantastic Four properties back (they will NEVER get The X-Men back).

Spidy is going to be in high school in the MCU, huh? I would rather college, but I guess this make sense. Spidy would represent the younger/next generation of superheros. Maybe the New Avengers? Maybe not. It would be interesting if Tony Stark would take Spidy under his wing for a short period of time like he kind'a did during the Civil War arc.

However, Spidy is his own man and isn't normally apart of a team. He is a loner. So, I hope they don't make Spidy begging to join them or anything like that.

Anyway, Spidy and Iroman talking science stuff or sh1t to each other or to an villain would be awesome.

In the very first issues of Amazing Spider-Man he tries to join the Fantastic Four and they tell him to get lost. A year or so later he asked to join the Avengers and they told him "go catch the Hulk and we'll consider it." He became a loner basically because every other superhero he tried teaming up with shot him down. I agree that he works best on his own, but he does have a history of trying to join other teams and things not working out for whatever reason.

Thank God no more cornball Garfield and no Mark Webb directing. Amazing Spider Man 2 was the worst comic book movie I have ever seen, the opening and closing scenes with Paul Giamatti were so bad. Felt like I was watching a cartoon, the tone of the movie made Avengers look like The Dark Knight.

As long as they get a good director that's not going to make the same type of garbage I am in. Please no more love stories.

Rumours have been posted on Reddit that Dylan O'Brien has officially signed today to play Spider-Man in the new films, and will be announced in a week or two. It's from the same source that first posted the news about Spidey joining the MCU before it was announced.

Just re-cast J.K. Simmons as Jameson next and I'm sold.
