lol so now kobes a passive stat padding magic/oscar triple double wanna be point guard assist hog eh?
anything to fit your agenda and deflect heat off lebron i guess
nobodies ever forced assists quite like lebron.. kobes only ever done it a rare few times after the media rides him for shooting too much. so he says "look.. fine.. we suck either way"
so kobes forces it to prove the media wrong. not to gain assists

There is nothing worse than a player that purposely plays the game for assist numbers.
LeBron gets a lot of praise for being "unselfish" and team oriented but it could not be farther from the truth.
He's passive when his team needs him to be aggressive and tries to force plays for the benefit of his raw number. Let's not forget he's the biggest cherry picker in the league when it comes to shooting and protects his FG% at all cost.
LeBron is the worst kind of basketball player and person. I consider him a cancer.

You made a thread complaining about mods targeting you and you immediately go back to doing the same sh*t they asked you to stop doing in the message you showed? Is this an act of defiance or are you really that devoted to spending your time bringing down Lebron on a internet message board?

Boris Diaw fits this.
Source to that Dean Smith quote and what does that have to do with Lebron? I think somebody like Rondo, CP3 would take offense to that today a bit more....
You can statpadd assists (see Rondo)... but selfish? That doesnt make sense whatsoever.... sharing the ball, creating for others, making them happy, building chemistry, making their jobs offensively much more easier, etc..... it is the opposite of selfish...

A scorer trying to get an assists is like a receiver playing QB. And thats what makes a player selfish because you might have the stats but your team loses. And thats the reason why bran is 2/5.

he's got a point
a pass that leads to an assist many times shows more bball IQ and vision than a normal assist.
it's also less selfish by definition and stats measured.

With LeBron especially it cracks me up when he stares down the wide open man he's going to pass it to, fires the pass to him, and then snaps his head to the sidelines trying to sell it as a no look pass :oldlol:
I guess it's worse that the media hypes it as such

Lets be honest the system is designed for you to play for stats.A ***** averaging 10 points with 7 assist and 7 rebs and helps win 5 rings won't get paid like a dude averaging 30/3/2.If you want a lot of money or to be a star you have to play for stats too

Boris Diaw has admitted that he has sacrificed wide open lay ups to try get an assist instead. That is selfish.

Lebron has never been the reciever, he has always been the QB in the NBA, he was a drafted PG... and since he got into the point-guard & then point-forward role he become later infact the best "PG" in the NBA..... His court vision & passing skills with his decision making and attention drawing makes him the best QB/playmaker in the NBA...... those who would take THAT job from him would only then be considered being selfish / ballhogs since they are neglecting team success.... Lebron has been BEGGED by coaches to that and even begged to even officially start PG by even the GOAT PG (Magic Johnson) himself....
Noticed how Lebron always gets that PG role no matter what PG he ever played with on any level ever? Did you see the Olympics with CP3 & Kidd around him? Who was the PG there? Who led them in assists? It was coach Krzyzewski himself who ordered Lebron to do so........ why do you think that is?
...and yes... thats why Lebron has 5 Finals Appearances overacheiving with many of those due to his play.... and thats why your guy in the Knicks who IS what you would call a scorer and isnt assisting and hence isnt selfish.... has nothing whatsoever....

Kobe is apparently tops in assist opportunities so he also tries to get assist, but just doesn't succeed as much as Lebron. I guess Kobe is selfish in a whole new way according to you.

at least here, we have a coach who's got no problem putting his job on the line.
not that I'm interested in comparing the environment for the coach to survive in the sports world to that of players.

I always thought this. ball dominance makes your teammates worse.
people always wonder why the cavs lost in the 07 finals by getting SWEPT. could they have not 1 game if the teammates were involved in a more organized way?
lebron plays with the ball on a string mentality, dude is conscious of his stats in mid game and has an agenda of getting a certain amounts of every stat.
dude legit could have won 4/5 of his finals appearances AT LEAST had he learned to sacrifice a little and play team oriented in a system that doesn't involve him just dictating where the ball goes for the sake of his own stats

That's true there' such thing as being "too open" in basketball so passing after you already have a clean look is pointless unless it's a layup.

people are naturally inclined to being mislead by things they dont understand and dont even put in an ounce of effort in trying to understand or learn

Actually I didn't comment on the assists things in the OP but I can see exactly where Coach Smith was coming from.. he preached selfless basketball so a player that passed up wide open shots in an effort to up his assist numbers would be every bit as bad to smith as a player who shot too much

Good citation. :applause:
This quote doesn't appear in a Google search. I went looking for the context of the quote.
We still lack the context in which he said this (Kenny's not the best essayist. Though it was cool to hear him mention Archbishop Malloy H.S. I saw him play in high school.)
It really doesn't make sense as a stand alone quote and if you didn't know about Dean Smith. You wouldn't know his attitude towards assists.
Dean Smith built on an idea he took from John Wooden where the man on the receiving end of the assistant would thank the passer. Smith took this further and had the scorer point to the passer, letting the fans see the gesture. Do you realize that a receiver playing QB is same as QB playing receiver? And QB and receiver are always incompatible roles. You dont let 1 player do those 2 coz its a recipe for failure. Only players that play for stats and not wins play those both roles. Its not a surprise that the top 2 GOATS(Jordan and magic) are either pg or scorer not both. Jordan could average 10+apg if he wants to and magic too could average 25+ if he wants to. But they chose not because they care more about winning than stats.
Im actually surprised Pauk had a problem with the quote...It was also Smith who said "a lion never roars after a kill" and we all know how much Pauk likes lions

You have no idea what LeBron was looking at in regards to the stat sheet.
Was his team getting outrebounded? Underachieving in assists? Is someone having a good shooting game? A bad one? LeBron is an on-court coach. One would think he would look at team stats to try to correct issues on the court during a game, just like a head coach or assistant coach would.
