Not the first time either. Happened in 09-10 and 11-12 too.

He really is better from three.
The biggest reason that he shoots a higher percentage than guys like Curry and Thompson is because he rarely takes contested shots from outside the 3pt line. It's always why he doesn't score at a higher clip.

I couldn't shoot 53% from behind the NBA 3 point line in an empty gym :(

He takes plenty of contested shots. He just doesn't ever create his own shots off the dribble. When he comes off those curls he gets off a shot with someone basically draped on him. He just has a quick release and only needs a sliver of space to get it off.
In an open gym where guys just catch and shoot there are probably about 30 guys in the NBA that are all close to equal. What separates Korver is his ability to a) get open b) release speed c) stay on balance and make the shot

Have you actally watched the Hawks this year?
His defender is always GLUED on to him and is told not to help off on ANYTHING. In order to even get a shot off, he has to sprint through 2 or 3 screens, and he is lucky if he gets a tiny bit off space to pull the trigger.
He is pretty much always contested with a hand in his face. The only times he gets wide open on threes are on major defensive collapses and from passes right after offensive rebounds.

He takes a few, but many of the are fairly uncontested... He is very selective and that's why he is only a 13 PPG scorer.

Wide open was a poor choice of words, but Curry takes the tougher 3's. Kover is usually way more selective.

Don't beat yourself up, Wilt would struggle to shoot 53% from the FT line

I watched him closely against GSW and he drilled a few with Klay all over him, I distinctly remember a play where he ran to an open spot with Klay on his heels then caught a pass, turned around without pause and sank a 3pt with Klay all over him.

He gets a lot of uncontested shots because he's extremely crafty and knows how to get open. That in itself is a very valuable skill very few guys in the NBA can master.

Actually it's not that unusual that 3point specialists shoot better from outside the arch than inside. I don't know the numbers but for example James Jones comes to my mind. He hardly ever takes 2pointers and he misses most of them(even lay-ups) but he's a great 3point shooter.
What baffles me more is when a 40+ % 3point shooter isn't automatic from the freethrow line!

What would he shoot from the 1996 line? 60%?

He would make more shots than he'd take. So something like 110%.
Why shoot twos when you can hit threes?

Why shoot twos when you can hit threes?
This. Korver's scoring 50% more points per made fg shooting 3s vs shooting 2s at his current rate.
People laughed at Antoine Walker for jacking up so many 3s and his infamous "because there are no 4s" line, but there's some sense so long as you can shoot it efficiently.
Then there's that added spacing and let's not forget Korver's improved defense this year  He's as much a reason the Hawks are winning as Millsap and Horford.

Why shoot twos when you can hit threes?
You have to shoot what the defense gives you. Inevitably he's going to touch the ball within the 3 point arc and be forced to take a shot. His 2pt % isn't bad either, he's still almost at 50% so he's not bad inside the arc. He's just godmode outside of it. He's not a player that "creates" his own shots in iso situations though he's dependent on running without the ball and the alertness and willingness of his teammates to give him the ball once he's got daylight for solid scoring opportunities. So he's not ever going to be a high volume scorer but still, his 3 point percentages are

Otherwise you would be called "empty stats" CavsFTW :lol .
Rajon Rondo missed 38 of his ...55 FTAs that season, so do not pshyched yourself hard about it. Try to improve on other areas - defense, rebounding, passing ...
