View Full Version : True or False: The Yankees would have A-Rod shot if they could get away with it.

A-Rod apologizes for his existence. (http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/story/_/id/12307497/alex-rodriguez-apologizes-new-york-yankees)

Due 60 million with another 30 million possible in bonuses. Some of those bonuses are probably never reached but the 6 HR to catch Willie Mays is possible. It will be interesting to see what he can do now that he will allegedly be clean...it will of course also be hilarious if he gets busted for PED use again as he's not getting many more home runs without them. A 39/40 year-old player that did nothing without PEDs can't be expected to do much at an age when most players have retired.

For the Yankees this must be like a Hold'Em hand where you bet most of your chips after the flop got nothing on the turn and now there's only one card that can save you on the river. This is why all those teams handing 200+ million contracts to guys north of 30 are crazy. With the added benefit that you know this guy might not even be an MLB player if he wasn't doping and at the least not nearly as dominant.

As a Cincinnati Reds fan, I know all about long contracts that could potentially cripple a team (Joey Votto).

As of right now, though, besides the A-Rod deal, I think the worst contract going is Albert Pujols. That has a 100 percent chance of ending pretty ugly. He's already in decline, and there are many more years left to go.

This Yankee regime probably not. Old Man Steinbrenner probably would've considered it.

Old George would never let this guy wear pinstripes again. Hal is a cheap ass.

Recommending a buy-out? Could be the right thing to do but they may as well see if he's of any use first. Paying dude 60 mil just to go away is a step no pro team would be willing to take, to be fair.

I don't understand pay-rod. Is he sticking around for incentives? So he is kissing ass shamelessly and being outcast by the Yankees, just so he can make $30 million more? He makes that in a year, how much more money does he need? Is he saving up to buy a country?

No one is going to take any milestones he passes seriously. All his stats are tainted, nothing can get him into the HOF.

As for the Yankees, they are an organization. I'm sure they would love for pay-rod to get hurt and retire, but if he helps them win I'm sure they will take it. If anything, he is the only drawing point for this year's Yankees. 2 years ago it was Mo retiring and last year was DJ calling it quits. Pay-rod is the lightning bolt they will need to draw people, but if he stinks it up the boobirds will be out.

I wish them nothing but failure. Hate the Yankees and do not like pay-rod. Hope he bats .180 :oldlol:

They gave him that contract and it looked idiotic at the time. Self-inflicted wound.
