I don't like the ring count as a means of evaluation in professional sports in general but to me it seems to have greater validity in basketball than it does in hockey or baseball (football it's only really relevant if it's a QB).
In modern hockey there's no way that one great, even transcendent player can carry a team to a Stanley Cup, everyone needs help and the whole team needs to pitch in (see the Chicago Blackhawks, Los Angeles Kings as far as recent team-play repeat winners, and the 08-09 Penguins as far as a transcendent player still needing a team). The best any starting pitcher can do is guarantee one or two, maybe three games/series, and that's not nearly as easy as it sounds while still not being enough to win a 7-game series without the rest of the team contributing.
In basketball, on the other hand, a star player will put in 36+ mins/game in the playoffs and has, in my opinion, far more control over the outcome of a series than a professional athlete in another sport (exception being a QB). I still don't think that rings are the best way to evaluate a player but at the same time I don't think that it can be ignored.
TL;DR: rings aren't the best indicator of greatness in basketball but at the same time they shouldn't be ignored.

when discussing the greatest career of all-time, post-season accomplishments > regular season accomplishments
when discussing the greatest player of all-time, eye test > field goal percentage

It's about being able to boil it down.

It's a culmination of all of those things imo. Eye test, the raw stats to back it up and Ring count to validate it all.

I'm with you on this one. Take them all into consideration.
I weigh them in that same order with the eye test being most important, then stats, then ring count.
