Well, it will be used, but something new for me to drive.
Looking at a 370z at the moment as my top choice. Can pick up a 2009 model with not too much run on it for $25k. I know that seems high, but it is Australia we're talking about, so cars are a damn rip off in general.
I'm thinking something more sporty, so anything similarly priced that I can look at? I'm also looking into some s2000's and WRX's that are in that $15-25k range, but I would prefer a rear wheel drive over an AWD.
It blows my mind that you guys in America have sub 5 second cars like the Mustang and Camaro going for $25k new... Lucky bastards.
Anyway, anything else I should look into? Still not even completely sold if I should even get another car.

just got a brand new golf r here in Australia (december last year) and lined up with a 370z. Even though there's no 0-100 speed on the things it was pretty neck and neck til the next set of lights.
Worth buying dude fast good looking cars. However if you live NSW you'll be considered a wanker if you drive one.

Are they not $25 grand? I might be misinformed, but from what I know, and have seen, they retail for just under that.

Brand new Golf R? What in the hell do you do for work?
Haha, why is the wanker label put on the 370z?

Max $25.000, used, rwd, manual shifter i assume (cmon, auto in sportscars is stupid) and nothing older than year 2000 right?
In that case the best would be:
BMW M5 E39 (rwd, manual shifter, 400 bhp)
Chevrolet Corvette C5 (rwd, manual shifter, 350 bhp) <-------- i would either go with this one
BMW M3 E46 (rwd, manual shifter, 342 bhp) <----------- or this one
Porsche 911 (996) Carrera (rwd, manual shifter, 320 bhp) <---------- or this one, probably this one, hard to turn down a freakin Porsche....
BMW 645i (rwd, manual shifter, 333 bhp)
BMW 335i (rwd, manual shifter, 306 bhp)
BMW 135i (rwd, manual shifter, 306 bhp)
Chevrolet Camaro RS (rwd, manual shifter, 300 bhp)
Ford Mustang GT (rwd, manual shifter, 300 bhp)
And if you are interested in AWD then you can own one of these beasts:
Mitsubishi Evo X
Mistubishi Evo IX
Subaru Impreza WRX STi

I thought it would be obvious I meant 0-60 times and not a 1/4 time.

haha I'm in property management atm dude.
Not sure how it got put on, but the 370z seems like the guy that thinks he's made it, but knows he really hasn't. Which makes him a tosser. Still an awesome car nonetheless, but usually seeing one driven around brighton le sands gives people that feel. Similar to the mercedes c200 kompressor. You bought the basic merc to walk around with a merc key.
For 25-30k I'd probably go for a r36 passat (yes i have an obsession with volkswagen or german cars in general....except for BMW....**** BMW)or a lexus is250.

its kinda hot in stralia, so I assume you will have oil temp problems.. My friend had it in the summer.
It depends how you drive tho
How about a 2010ish GTS Holden Commodore? Same platform as the Camaro
Same as our GTS Pontiac G8 here... (Built in Australia and shipped here for final assembly)
Nice cars, parts are readily available and huge aftermarket support
a few tweeks and you got your 5 second car
If I could get the Commodore body kit here in the USA without paying an arm and a leg easily I'd seriously consider building a Pontiac G8 into a Commodore replica ala V8 supercars (without the big rear wing, gotta be a sleeper)

For 1/3 of that you can get a Cobalt SS supercharge and then drop $1500 towards aftermarket parts. Then you have $15,000 plus a more fuel efficient vehicle. Now you got $15,000 towards whatever you want! I regularly roast imports with my car.

I absolutely hate Commodores haha.
The sports versions are the typical Aussie bogan or "redneck" car as you guys call them. Saying that though, I really like the new 317 R8's they have. Very nice looking cars, but they cost a pretty penny and for that money I'd rather be getting something European.

How much are used BMW/Mercedez cars in Australia? Can't you get a nice E class or 5 series for 15-20k?

haha... hell no.
A used 130i is about $28k, and that has about 80,000km on it.
To put things in perspective, a new M3 is about $150k here, and about $50k there I think.

Wtf is going on in Australia. :lol
My brother had a friend who got a used M6 with like 40k miles for under 50k. It sounded like a supercar with the its exhausts.

Nope. Swapping most cars over to right hand drive and the fees/taxes usually is never worth it.
If I wanted one of the current Mustangs that are $24k new over in America, it'd end up costing just about $70k after all fees and what not.

M6 has a V10 @ 500 something bhp.... it is a supercar... you can stack your entire Family inside in comfort and kill Lambos/Ferraris.... :P

How much are the Toyato GT86/ Subaru BRZ in Australia, classic sports car even if they are a bit underpowered but nothing you can't fix with a mod or two. The new WRX is pretty nice too, and the new Miata is coming as well.

They aren't too bad. About $33k new. I'm not entirely interested in them. Mate has one, gave it a spin, and yeah, it is nice to drive, but too gutless for me.
