As for some of the old-timers, I've met Ralph Sampson, Patrick Ewing and Dikembe Mutombo. Actually got to sit down and talk to Sampson. Really nice guy.

Met lots of the new era guys. LeBron James is probably the biggest name I've met in passing... didn't get a head nod, though. :(

Met the majority of the 08 and 2010 Raptors squad while doing the night life thing.

Met a bunch of the Nuggets (namely Melo, JR Smith) during the same year at a New Years party. My best friend witnessed Melo do some douche baggy shit that night.

Met a bunch of the 6ers a year or two before AI got dealt (once again, at a club)

Saw Bosh and his girl at a Chapters/Indigo outside of Toronto one day. You could see him from any aisle in the store no matter how far you were.

Also, for what it's worth, I was in Vegas this year during the summer league so I saw a bunch of dudes along the strip.

I don't know what your experience has been, but I've learned over the years that sometimes it is best to not meet your favorite athletes. Not always, but there's a good chance you're going to walk away disappointed.

Luckily all of my experiences have personally been pleasant but I've heard a few rough encounters.

My little brother was a massive Brandon Roy fan until he rudely shunned him during half time at a game he attended (he wasn't playing due to injury).
He still appreciated his talents but the bad encounter clearly left a stain.

I met Byron Scott at the Bonaventure hotel after he retired but before he was a head coach

Funny thing was after all those years of watching play ball and always being the shortest guy on the floor it was a bit shocking to see him in person because he looks pretty damn tall :lol

I used to be active on UKs campus and played pick up ball with MKG, Terrence Jones, saw Cuz and Wall, and Davis and Noel playing.

Played AAU vs Rondo.

i've met big Z. I've met a couple NHL players, but the only NBA player i've ever met has been big Z. Nice guy. I met Joe Thomas (browns) once too.

I'm not big into going out "clubbing" or whatever you wanna call it, if I go to a bar i usually go to one in the suburbs rather than downtown. My brothers like to hit up downtown a lot and they've met a bunch of cavs, browns, and indians players.

they've seen kyrie and CJ miles passing a blunt back and forth once after a game :oldlol:

Played against Tony Massenburg when he was at U of MD. Nobody wanted to guard him so i said I'll do it (I'm 6'2").

He didn't try to go inside, just shot jumpers. He did almost nail me in the head with a follow up dunk. There was no net on this court and i had to move fast to get out of the way.

I got him good once though. I posted him up and of course he didn't try to deny position. I got the ball and did an up and under move that sent him flying and scored an uncontested layup.

Not sure what you mean by meet. Actually shake hands and talk?

I've gotten autographs from a lot. Sabonis, Scottie Pippen, Greg Oden, Nic Batum, Wesley Matthews, Gilbert Arenas(when he was on the Warriors, he threw my sharpie away), Reggie Miller (last game played in Portland), LaMarcus Aldridge, Martell Webster.

Me and my bro went downtown one afternoon before a Blazer Laker game. Kobe and Shaq walked out and got on the bus. Didn't stop to sign for anyone. I went into the hotel earlier and saw Devon George pacing around the lobby.

One time after a game Derek Anderson recognized me and waived me over. Said he didn't feel like signing but would take pictures from his car. The girl I was with posed next to his him. He was sitting in his Bentley. Still have the pic too.

This was all around 2002-2005. I don't even go to games like that anymore.

Forgot to mention. One day in August me and my bro were walking past my high school on the way to this mall. New Jordan's coming out that morning. I see this tall black dude a block away get out of this limo.

So me and my brother see this door he walks in is the small gym of my high school. We run up to see who walked in and it's Kevin Garnett shooting around. There are dudes setting up lighting for his shoot. He's draining half court shots with ease. Swish every time.

When we went into the hall way outside the gym he comes out and shakes our hands. He was just saying what's up man. Real cool. He was there for an Adidas shoot. The ad was in a Finish Line mag. I guess the Benson High School gym is a popular place for these shoots. I'll never forget how he never missed a shot. Just insane.

Most famous is probably Worthy. Super down to earth and nice guy. Just wanted to greet him and he actually took the time to have a short conversation with me.

Most astounding was probably Aaron Gray during the allstar game that was in Vegas. I remember thinking that he was the biggest human being I've ever seen and how does he suck so much **** as a basketball player with that kind of size.

Hung out with Sonny Weems quite a bit in college. I know he's not in the NBA anymore, but I'm sure if he wanted he could be toiling away as a 7th-9th man on a decent team. I've got a few "in passing" type autographs but I don't really count those as "meeting" the player.

Also met Corliss Wiliamson and sorta "hungout" with him when I was in the 3rd or 4th grade. He was a high school senior and attending the Arkansas Tech basketball camp that my dad worked/coached every year. My dad at the time knew he'd play in the NBA one day so he used my "kid-ness" and introduced me to Corliss and I tagged-along with him throughout part of the day.

A few.

Met Greg Oden and some other dude with a headband I never met in a layover in Vegas on my way to Ohio in 06. He was still in High School and was very nice.

Played against Jkidd in 97 at San Diego Mid City gym and a bunch of girls who played for Tennessee. Chick I was guarding was 2 inches taller then me 6'4" and was no joke. 3 times in a row a shot was missed and JKidd grabbed the rebound, took like 5 dibbles and was laying it up on the other side. Very very fast.

Played against Luke Walton and his brother a couple times in High School. They played for Uni, a private school in Linda Vista. His Brother was taller but alittle uncoordinated, Luke use to do spin moves all the time. Anyway played against them 2 times and lost. Their team was too big.

I've met Shaq and his gf. He went to the hospital I used to work in out of nowhere to visit the patient I was attending. He then told me some jokes I didn't get at the time (I was studying for something and let him alone with his loved one while everybody in the hospital where asking for autographs, the joke was about having a private him room which I got after I saw the picture he took with the staff) and he left. That's when I noticed how big he was when I saw his gf. I always thought she was like 5'2'' but she's quite tall at around ~5'8'' ~ 5'9''...

Met some Illini dudes, I guess. None of them really went on to be good nba guys. DEE BROWN tho. I forgot who all I've seen of them. I'm not the kind of guy who just grills guys when I see them. I just look at them and they look back like they know I know who they are and they're like sup.

Unrelatedly, of non-nba players, saw Nick Smith the big-ass tall white garbage dude from Illinois drinking at the Outback bar a lot. Not as cool as Bill Walton, but still funny if you know who I'm talking about. I wasn't drinking there... but just going to eat and you'd see his big ass. He prolly had a lot of reasons to be drinking.

The closest I've come to an NBA player is Manu signing a Spurs calendar. He signed it, noticed that he was signing a picture of him and his wife, looked at me and gave me a BIG grin. I guess the calendar was an unusual thing to sign as we were in Miami (not San Antonio where it's more common).

And I've never heard of a high school named Uni. I've heard of University City near La Jolla.

You must not be from around here, or you're young. University of San Diego High School is where Luke and his brother went, we called it Uni. Mid City is over by 45th in East SD right next to the Police Station. Richard Jefferson & Steve Kerr came there twice and scrimmaged, Kerr came when he was playing for the Bulls. If you played any real ball in the city you knew where this was, also Parkway further south Chula Vista. The white boys were too scared to go down there so you might not know anything about it. That's where Lincoln heads use to play in the 90's and 2000's.

I've lived in San Diego all of my life. USDHS isn't called that anymore. It's called Cathedral. That's why I had never heard of it called Uni. I remember Barry Zito went there.

45th street is over there by the 15 in City Heights, pretty close to Hoover. Never heard of Mid City gym although I don't play at rec centers. I only ever went to 24 Hour Fitness once I turned 18. You have to be in at least your 30's or 40's if you know all of that. Lincoln isn't even a tough school anymore, especially after they renovated it about 7 or 8 years back. Lol at you thinking I'm white though :oldlol:
