Soccer overall has a better structure than NBA. I'll list a few examples:

1) No tanking in soccer. Why? If you're a bottom-three team at the end of the season, you get relegated to the second-tier league (like the NBA Developmental League). In the NBA, you're ENCOURAGED to tank so you get better chances in the lottery.

2) ALL the top teams in ALL the different european leagues particpate in the Champions League. Then all the mid-tier teams participate in the European League. Then the winner of each of these leagues battle in the Super Cup. This way, there's no debate who the REAL world champion is.

3) No drafts. You want the best player? Pay him money.

4) Crowd. In LA, the Lakers crowd spend more time on their cellphones. Look at the crowd's reaction hre after thier team lost - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_aAeVlACFzg

It also has teams where 9 of the top 10 players play on the same team. Their shit makes 2011 Heat look pedestrian.

basketball could also have a champions league:

* have one tournament for the top teams in the NBA, canadian league, brazilian league, etc.

* have another tournament for the top teams in europe like greece, turkey, spain, etc.

* then the winner of each league plays each other to decide who the true world champion of basketball is

sure, 99% of the time an NBA team will win it but we're all more excited for the non-nba 1% team that do win it
