Right now, both has 2 rings and 4 mvps. 1 more MVP or 3 finals appearances and hes surpassing wilt IMO.
Can lebron do it?

Can he do it? Of course. Will he do it? That is the question. LeBron already is top 10 all-time. He is all but certain to surpass Magic, Bird, Shaq. He likely will finish as no worse than #5 all-time. Can he crack the top 4, though? The strong GOAT candidates are KAJ, MJ, Wilt and Russell. He may not get to them.
I think most likely he joins the top tier. He presumably will finish with 3-4 rings and 5-6 MVP's. If he does that I would probably place him #3 all-time although he would have a legitimate case for GOAT with that resume.

He'd have no objective argument as the GOAT with that.

GOAT rankings are not strictly about resumes, though. You can make cases for anyone who is within a given tier based on your particular criteria and your assessments of players. With 5-6 MVP's and 3-4 rings he would be in that tier.

lebron james has a legitimate case over anybody but jordan in the top10.
he is right now top 5...will end as top3 or 2.

the only criteria for GOAT is rings as the man. Only losers base their rankings on MVPs

Russell the clear GOAT then!

Just call it what it is because there's no way he should have a real argument OVER MJ with inferior numbers, individual accolades, and team success unless you have an agenda (like you do).

Criteria the same way your criteria puts MJ at #1. KAJ, Wilt, MJ and Russell all have strong cases for GOAT. Any of them can legitimately be #1 or be #4.
BTW, when I said he would probably finish as #3 all-time the two ahead of him imo would be KAJ and MJ.
If it is strictly about who the best player ever is that is still Wilt. LeBron's dominance did not surpass Wilt's so the BOAT train has left.

BTW if it is strictly about rings and MVP's then Russell is the clear GOAT. 11/5>6/6 or 2/4 or 6/5. So drop the pretense of formulaic objectivity.

Well said. I feel like MJ probably has the BEST case, but people need to quit acting like the game stops because dude was 6/6 in the finals (which is completely arbitrary).

Exactly. Young X is a prime example of this problem. MJ is viewed as the undisputed GOAT, it is simply a "fact" so anyone with a contrary opinion or even open to another player as GOAT has to be extremely biased. The GOAT in basketball is closer than in any of the other major sports. There is no Gretzky in basketball.

Rings as the man holds more weight than stats. Thats why no matter how good the stats of wilt and bran, they are nowhere the winner of russell/magic/jordan tier.

the problem is most dumbasses dont have any idea about the weight of stats and rings just like they have no idea how important scoring is compared to passing and defense. They think its all equal when clearly for those who played basketball knows that the hardest part of this game is to score. Just like the hardest part of this game is to win a ring and not to statpad. So for that matter, wilt and bran is nowhere near the elite players. Those guys choke because they are not winners not because they have bad teammates.

Magic has as many "rings as the man" as Wilt and LeBron (and Worthy was the FMVP in one of those years). LeBron likely will win more. He is only 30.

Rings as the man is about whos the MVP of the team when you won the ring not FMVP so magic was the man in those 4 and arguable in their first ring. But since kareem was just a 21 ppg before magic then clearly it was his team from the get go. Besides if bran and bosh only managed to add 11 wins while rookie magic alone is 13 and lebron was considered the man then so is magic.

Bron even with one more ring and MVP simply has not done enough to be a GOAT candidate yet. What advantages would he have over MJ (not saying MJ is the undisputed GOAT, but he's my choice) career wise to be ranked over him?

Legacy is already severely ****ed. No way he passes any of those bolded. Shaq is a road block at number 8, then you have to get through him to get to Duncan, then through Duncan to get to Bird and Magic. Everyone in the top 10 has a better legacy. The best he can hope for is to overtake Kobe at number 9....who repeated like Lebron, but with a weaker squad in the West. Your legacy isn't too impressive if you're remembered for phantom elbow syndrome, your mother being easy, twice , crab dribbles, the decision, fourth quarter ghosting, LeBronze medal's, premature balding, and quitting on a fourpeat finals appearance team in search for an even easier road.

Timmy D for MVP

Very likely.
As crazy as it may sound I think Lebron might just be a guy we don't really fully appreciate until he's really on the decline. He's been so great for so long we've come to expect it and it's business as usual. When his totals start getting ridiculous, and we see how rare a player he really is we'll start to rocket him up the lists.
dunno, but lebron with a few more accomplishments should be able to finish #2. He already has the numbers, dominance, individual accolades. He just needs a few more championships..

If he was closer to averaging a triple double and shot the 3 as much as Curry with his skill also.....Maybe
Until then I'll never rank him above guys like Shaq, Kareem, and Wilt.
Not an insult, he's up there. I just value dominent scoring big men who can defend and pass well more. Imagine what one of those 3 could do on the current warriors replacing Bogut

1) What are your criteria? Who does it spit out as the GOAT? Why is your criteria dispositive?
2) LeBron is 30. Let's see the next 5-6 years of his career play out. It is certainly possible that he has a record that gives him a case for GOAT when he retires. He already has 4 MVP's, 2 rings and 5 Finals appearances and he is the best player of the global era. As a comparison MJ had 3 MVP's, 3 rings and 3 Finals after his age 30 season (and 3 MVP's, 2 rings and 2 Finals halfway through his age 30 season) while KAJ had 6 MVP's, 1 ring and 2 Finals.
LeBron already has a resume the arguably is better than that of the second half of the top 10. He will clearly surpass them in a few years.
Shaq: 1 MVP, 4 rings, 6 Finals
Magic: 3 MVP's, 5 rings, 9 Finals
Bird: 3 MVP's, 3 rings, 5 Finals
Duncan: 2 MVP's, 5 rings, 6 Finals
Kobe: 1 MVP, 5 rings, 7 Finals
Hakeem: 1 MVP, 2 rings, 3 Finals (11th in my book but many people have him in their top 10)
LeBron: 4 MVP's, 2 rings, 5 Finals
People are too caught up in the moment, bitterness and other extraneous factors to recognize what LeBron is doing. I know because I too hated LeBron from 2010-2012. He is no worse than a top 5 all-time talent and a tier above Kobe, Duncan and Durant.

Jordan comes out as the GOAT because not only is his regular season resume is as good as anyone else's but his postseason resume eclipses everybody's IMO.
Bron is one of the best ever but 3-4 rings and 5 MVP's isn't enough to be the GOAT. What would he have as an advantage over MJ at that point?
