He's also not KJ McDaniels.

Why does him not being the greatest dunker of all time warrant less hype? The dude is clearly a freak athlete and dunker, he deserves serious props for what he did tonight. As the biggest Giannis fan on here he completely shat the bed, Plumlee was a non factor as well, and aside from that first dunk Oladipo wasn't an all timer either. Zach single handedly turned this contest from utter garbage to exciting. We can get caught up in nostalgia all we want with guys like MJ and Dominique but from a technical perspective Lavine is every bit in their class if not higher. He's gotta keep it up to truly enter the dunk career discussion with a guy like Vince, but peak v peak Lavine is clearly up there with the best dunkers of all time including Vince, even despite him being a 19 year old rookie.

Zach Lavine saved the dunk contest. Seriously if it weren't for him it would've been so ****ing awful.

Gotta give it up to the rookies and sophomores. Someone has to step up unlike some veteran players that come to mind.

Yo how did you get a time machine? What else can you tell me? I don't care about hype, saying he could be the next vince is fine. Saying he is in their class right now is absurd.

you actually still interested in seeing a 30 year old LeBron in the contest? It doesn't really have any appeal anymore.

This isn't a discussion about their overall games. You don't need a time machine to see how their games fit in different eras. All the dunk contest footage is out there. We can directly compare them.
And Lavine is clearly a freakish dunker. Does the dude have to dunk from the 3PT line before we admit he's up there with the best of them? If we're talking about dunking career, obviously a 19 year old rookie doesn't sniff Vince's legacy. But you cannot tell me that what Zach did in this contest, and some of the dunks he's pulled off in other contests..isn't up there with the best of them. You just cannot do it.
Especially guys like MJ and Dominique who are hyped to no end as GOAT-tier contest dunkers. Lavine's dunks tonight would make the stuff they did look completely pedestrian. And again, he didn't even bring out his best stuff.

Lets put it this way. If you took Carter from his contest and put it directly against Lavine this contest, Lavine would win.
The only reason he didn't get perfect scores for his other dunks is because he made it look too easy. That is legit, the only reason.
Since when is a guy getting a pass off the back of the board and doing a between the legs on the other side a 45? It isn't.
He had two misses the whole contest, and he tried dunks far harder than Carter did.
This was better than J Rich's performance, and Carter's. The reason it won't be viewed as so is because Lavine didn't have the casual fan hype Carter had coming in, and the crowd wasn't great.

Welcome to ISH! Where everything is either the greatest ever or the worst thing in the history of the NBA and nothing inbetween!

Said it in the AS thread..if you dropped Lavine in the 80s-90s dunk contest, dude would be getting the Vince elbow in the rim reaction on every dunk. The look on Dr J's face after Lavine's first dunk said it all. They would not know how to react if he brought out his best stuff.

Yeah, agreed about the 80's and 90's thing.
Over exposure and internet has ruined the novelty of the dunk contest. People have seen it all.
