the odds of them not getting their pick is low. What are the chances of 2 teams jumping up in the lotto ahead of them. heck it is not impossible that they still get their pick even if 2 teams above them jump into the top 3.

Levity

that is factually correct. but look at our starting 5, and our uninterested bench unit. were on pace to stay a bottom 4 team, baby!!!

If they finish bottom 3 are they guaranteed a top 5 pick in the draft? Or is that just the worst record?

Bottom team guaranteed top 4 pick, second from bottom guranteed top 5, third from bottom guaranteed top 6. That's how it works. But generally 3 teams moving up into the top 3 lottery spots doesn't happen. I don't know if it ever has honestly.

Lakers are 4th in the tankathon. They should be fine unless they finish over Orlando in standings and a team outside of the bottom move wins the lottery.

No. They would have to have a bottom 2 record to be guaranteed A PICK.

If they end up with the 3rd worst record they would have a 4% chance of dropping to 6 and losing it.

If they end up with the 4th worst record they would have a 17.2% chance of ending up with the #6 or #7 pick which would mean it would gone.

If they end up with the 5th worst record they would have a 45% chance of losing it.

The good news is they are AWFUL and will probably end up 2-3. I think Minny passes them now that their team is healthy. That makes them #3 behind NYK (who seem to be a lock to "win" the worst record) and Philly, who is young and playing ok now. After Minnesota the next fewest losses is by Orlando with 17. That seems like a comfortable lead to end up at #4 at the very worst and probably 2-3.

Or any team jumps into the top 3. Which has a 45% likelihood. Fortunately for the Lakers, they are AWFUL and have no chance of catching Orl.

Nice of you to notice, Rip van Winkle.

That's why it makes no sense for the Lakers to keep Boozer and Lin, when they won't be back next year and they hurt the tank. Both should be released.

GOBB
02-16-2015, 02:50 PM
You didn't know?

Nah I didn't. I knew the Lakers had a second first rd pick via Houston/Lin trade. Totally forgot about this. Mainly due to the fact that at the time of the trade who even suspected the Lakers would be in a position where losing their first rd pick would actually mean something. Which is probably why it slipped my mind the day after this trade was made.

That's why it makes no sense for the Lakers to keep Boozer and Lin, when they won't be back next year and they hurt the tank. Both should be released.

Lakers are 3.5 games behind Orlando for the 4th worst spot. I don't think releasing Lin/Boozer matter much. And given Jeanie Buss comments about "tanking" doubt the Lakers would do that. Total contradiction.

02-16-2015, 03:06 PM
I don't thin the Lakers will lose their pick. Wolves are better than their record suggests and the Sixers could pass the Lakers as well.
The only team who is worse is the Carmelo less Knicks. Lakers could very well finish with the second worst record guarantying the 5th pick at least.

You don't want to mess around and get young hungry players who might win 5 extra games... you gotta keep team chemistry consistent with the tank.

It's unlikely the Lakers will lose this pick considering they've won 1 of their last 16 games. They probably will end up with a worse record than both the 76ers and the Timberwolves by the end of the season.

They had a young superstar after 01-02. They have no one right now. This is gonna take a COMPLETE rebuilt. No player on this roster will be a part of the Lakers next title. They're in much worse shape right now.

This is why it was stupid for everyone to waste so much time earlier in the year analyzing why the Lakers were losing. It really doesn't matter, they just need to lose as much as possible. It was a little strange seeing random fans like the Raptor fan above me make threads on them everyday.

Lakers are going to sign guys to awful contracts this offseason in order to give them the appearance of a contender. They will likely end up getting Okafor to pair with Randle. That's a really nice big man combo to build around. I predict they'll sign the following players:

Dragic 3 years 55 million
Afflalo 2 years 15 million

Then they will offer maxes to both Draymond Green and Jimothy Butler, if both of those are matched then they'll get Wes Matthews, I'm thinking 4 75

Starting lineup of:

Dragic
Afflalo
Matthews
Randle
Okafor

With Nicholas Young off the bench

I'm not counting on Mr. Bryant giving much if anything next year but if he can contribute it's all gravy.

Is that team a contender to win a title next year? No. In 2 years? Yes

randle and okafor are both good players, but they would be apoor fit together. both will likely be bad defensive players, neither will be a shot blockers, and neither of them can cover a lot of ground.

if they get the top pick they should trade down, pick up some extra assets, and draft russell, if they think that they can get dragic.

I don't see why he would be mad 3rd pick is a ideal position to be if your the sixers, they didn't move up or down In the draft and have a shot for Russel and Mudaiy or even Towns or Okafor. Just because they didn't get lakers heat or even the thunder pick this year doesn't mean they failed, those 3 picks will come to us next year combine that with our next round selection and dario saric and you got a solid foundation for a dynasty or if a star becomes available we have more assets + cap space than any other team to facilitate a trade. Free agency will show us all where Philly is headed we can offer 2 max contracts to the top agents maybe get one of them and compete for playoffs or we make no moves at free agency we can take on a contract for another first rounder as well And tank 1 more year.
