It would have dominated anything not named the SuperBowl or World Cup honestly.

Lets ignore the fact that the ASG was on TNT and SNL was on NBC

which oh you know makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE

basic cable would still have TNT as an option.

It was also NBC's highest rated show since 04 when ER had their season finale..

i'm not sure why this is surprising to you, one of the most popular television shows of all time has this huge once in a lifetime event on prime time NBC.. of course it's going to draw huge ratings.

The general public doesn't care about the NBA finals unless Jordan or Kobe is playing.

yeah, this is basically a non-story. comparing to other ASG is a better metric.

Actually, where I am, basic cable does not include TNT, etc. I actually dont have any cable and havent in over a decade. I watch all my ball on leaguepass.

My area's basic cable is something like TBS, WGN, CW, QVC, ION, and two CSPAN's. If I didn't know any better, I'd think the cable company were trying to force people into buying the full package by offering terrible basic choices.

Same, except I have cable.

How do you catch college games? NFL? Thought about cable cutting a couple years ago. Already have a roku and chromecast, and subscriptions to hulu, netflix, and amazon prime... Plus I torrent all the time. And I still watch tv more than all of those combined. Damn sports.

But yeah, pretty sure most places it's NBC, Fox, CBS, ABC, CW, PBS, and few whatevers.

NBA seriously needs to consider putting the all star game back on regular TV. All the other All Star games are on reg TV. NFL, MLB, NHL. Even boxing coming back to regular TV.

Even the most popular sport in the US, football, its ASG stinks in the ratings department.

No one really likes to watch uncompetitive games plus the ASG happens every year whereas that was the 40th year anniversary featuring old and new cast members... that doesn't exactly happen every year.
