Dude flat out sucks
Now before OKC fans try and blame me for back peddling, I've always stated that prime Perkins was a defensive beast and top 5 two-way Center, without him Durant wouldn't have gone so far in the playoffs.
Too bad he is now officially way past his prime, and has no use for the Cavs
Will just take up space

Perkins was recruited directly by LeBron James to pick the Cavs, according to a source.

They desperately need his leadership.
Cavs only issue right now is they don't have a good leader. Cavs have a lot of young pieces and Perk will be able to mentor them and shape them into champions.
If Cavs do wind up winning this year, I think a lot of credit will go to Perkins because of the leadership he will bring.
Cavs continue to stack the deck.

Perkins? Cavs no excuses.
That doesn't even need to be said anymore. Not only do they have no excuses but they are the prohibitive favorite to win it all.
Not only should they win it all, but they should do it in dominating fashion. Anything but a 16-1 or 16-2 run in the postseason will be a disappointment.

Perkins: "Hello?"
LeBron: "Yo, this is LeBron."
Perkins: "Whats up?"
LeBron: "PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE JOIN THE CAVS!

Perkins: "I told you. I'll think about it. BYE!"

He didn't fit with our team. We needed someone who could score in the paint. Cavs already have that with Mozgov and Love is a highly skilled PF who puts the ball in the basket.
Plus, we didn't need his leadership. That's something the Cavs desperately need. Adding Perkins is huge and if you don't agree then you don't know sports. Period.

Perkins is an excellent pickup at this point. He had been playing 20 minutes a game every night for the last two years in OKC. Obviously, that's far from ideal given where he's at in his career. Yeah, if you play him that many minutes every night, he's going to have some really bad moments.
His role will be very different in Cleveland. We badly needed an insurance policy for if/when Mozgov gets in foul trouble or the normal rotation of Timo, KLove and Tristan is interrupted for whatever reason. That's what Perkins will be ... an insurance policy.
He'll be lucky to play 10 meaningful minutes most nights. But, we know that if something happens to Mozgov or Thompson or Love, we've got someone with experience who can step in and give us minutes.
Also, when guys aren't forced to do more than they should every night, they tend to play a lot better when they are called upon. He'll be in a much more comfortable position here. A veteran leader who will spend most of the time on the bench... but provides a "break the glass" option if a problem comes up.
Can't ask for much more at this point in the season.

I just can't understand why an old school guy perkins chose a team with lebron and how he said no to two former coaching staff.

He should help you guys though. Perkins gets a bad wrap, but he will be handy with your lack of bigs.
The reason is simple ... he has more of a chance to get on the court here and, without sounding too overconfident (I'm really not), as good or a better chance at a title than any other option. Obviously, any grudges Perkins held toward LeBron didn't extend beyond the lines of the basketball court ... in which case there is no reason for him not to come here.
Also, this isn't just LeBron's team. Perk joins a pretty nice list of veteran players who are widely respected and liked across the league ... Mike Miller, Shawn Marion, James Jones.
Also, a chance to serve as mentor to a young, likeable big like Tristan Thompson? I'm more excited for what Perk brings from a leadership standpoint than anything he does on the court, tbh. He was beloved on that OKC team. Durant broke down in tears during his MVP acceptance last year when he started talking about Perk.
It makes a lot of sense, imo.

Doing the D-League thing is fine for a young rebuilding team or a borderline playoff team that wants to make a gamble. The Cavs are not that team. We were possibly an insurance policy center away from a title.
I think you're underestimating Perkins. He has averaged 20 minutes a night the last two years playing on a really good Western Conference team. Yes, he had his problems, but OKC was also really good during his time there and he was a part of their every night rotation.
His role here will be much smaller and more limited... befitting of where he is in his career. And, he will bring another veteran presence to the locker room that is a combination of experience (James, Miller, Jones, Marion) and really young guys (Kyrie, Love, Tristan, Shump).
We've basically been playing all season without a backup center. Tristan was playing the role as both backup PF and backup C. This will also free him up a bit.

@topic:
perkins is underrated because he frees up love and thompson to play PF only which matches their games much better. This means less effort for love defensively and that he'll be able to concentrate more on the glass ... which is exactly what love is already doing in the 20 mins mozgov is on the court, but now he'll be able to do it for an extra 15 mins, that is ... everytime he is on the floor.
It will also make mozgov more aggressive.
Porkins will get at least 12-15 mins a game, he is more than insurance.
if varejao comes back the cavs frontline rotation will really clobber the living fck out of any other frontline. Add in the rest of their talent and they are scary as hell. If they get something decent from a haywood trade that'd be a retardedly strong team.
Intersting observation:
The cavs are quite similar to the late 08-09-10 lakers:
- HUGE frontcourts with a variety of decent players,
- an aging but still MVP level star
- alot of complementary talent.
Nobody wants to play such teams in the playoffs, they'll have stretches where quick teams give them problems but in the long run they will wear teams down (especially series).

So, this looks like the rotation we're going to have heading into the playoffs...
PG - Kyrie Irving, Matthew Dellavedova
SG - JR Smith, Iman Shumpert
SF - LeBron James, Shawn Marion(?)
PF - Kevin Love, Tristan Thompson
C - Timofey Mozgod, Kendrick Perkins
Looks pretty good to me. I love the versatility of our backcourt guys. Kyrie and Delly can play/defend either the 1 or the 2 and JR Smith can even handle/pass reasonably well for his position. I've already seen Shump successfully defend three positions. In fact, the reason I put a question mark next to Marion is because he hasn't even been playing at all lately. Blatt has been subbing out LeBron and either playing Shump or JR at the 3 or going big.
It seems like Marion, Miller and Jones are all completely out of the rotation at the moment. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised, though, if that changes at some point in the playoffs. I think Miller, particularly, could still have one or two more incredible shooting series left in him. It sort of feels like Blatt is just shelving him for the moment, until the time is right and he's needed as a spacer in the postseason.
All the talk about a backup PG and they still haven't made a move for one. I'm not expecting one to be added now that we filled a roster spot with Perk. Adding another PG would now mean losing Joe Harris, who I still think could be a good player down the line, or one of Miller, Jones or Marion. You don't want to upset the apple cart like that with things going so well.
So, the roster you see above is likely what the Cavs will take into the playoffs. I'm satisfied. In the playoffs, they say you play eight guys, but trust seven. Those seven are likely LeBron, Kyrie, Love, Mozgov, Tristan, JR, Iman, and Delly.

Someone should dig up all the old threads where "OKC" fans would continuously berate Perkins talking about how terrible he was and that if he were benched OKC would have won X series or X game.
Now that he's on the cavs though.. #stacked

yes because he was starting
nobody would have mind if came off the bench for 10 minutes a game
shouldn't be that difficult to understand

Are you insane? Perkins doesnt even start this year and he still gets blamed for nearly every loss. And for good reason, he's garbage.

Thunder fans have been blaming KD and WB's injuries for nearly every loss.
for the past few years they've been blaming Perk because he was possibly the worse player that any championship contender had in their line up getting significant minutes

That doesn't even need to be said anymore. Not only do they have no excuses but they are the prohibitive favorite to win it all.
Not only should they win it all, but they should do it in dominating fashion. Anything but a 16-1 or 16-2 run in the postseason will be a disappointment.

If he's not starting then he's actually a pretty solid back-up center. I thought, for the most part, he did fine this year as our back-up center. I mean, yeah, he still Perk'd things up from time-to-time, but he wasn't nearly as bad as when he was a starter getting 30ish minutes per game.

I'm trying to be as subtle as I possibly can over the last couple days that this needs to change. Or, people will be going away. Either people start really trying to have an actual semi-intelligent discussion or they'll be gone. And, it won't be a short stint in lockup. I'm talking through the playoffs.
Occasional trolling is a part of any forum, but this has gotten out of hand. Every thread I open is filled with the same posters having the same discussions. It's f#cking boring.
You have to understand, that lebron is one of the most disliked/criticized players in the game.
You knew when the lebron show rocked up, that there would be unwelcome conversation about him and here we are.
To ban people because they won't play along with the lebron d.cksucking that occurs in Cavs threads like this, is kind of pushing a power trip.
Ban lebronxrings/dubeta/dragic4life and be done with it. No one else here deserves to be banned.
If you're thinking of banning budaddii because he's stirring the pot and annoying you, that isn't what a mod is there for. CavaliersFTW trolls hard when he wants to, so if you are to ban budaddii, you might as well ban all the Cavs/lebron trolls too.
The people complaining about derailed threads, often are the ones who throw out trolling comments. Not many posters here can claim to be innocent.

Get criticized for not recruiting during first stint, get criticized recruiting second stint. Can't win either way.
Hey, I've never seen someone recruit so hard. Dude is like coach cal out there.
But I mean, it works, people listen. It's just amazing how he can pull his arch-enemies like Marion and Perk. Maybe he's giving them money under the table or something.
It's still kinda wack that dudes are like... I'll go play w/ Bron. But as I said, it's unprecedented, so I guess it's amazing he can pull it off.

This move really gives the cavs versatility. When love was hurt against Bulls last week they were forced to go real small at times now cavs have option and versatility to go big and stay big or go smaller depending on matchup and strategy. Depending on team they now can match or force another teams hand with lineups. :applause:

Who did that?
I don't think a lot of people understood what Mozgov was going to do for this team. Lots of people were questioning giving up two 1sts for him at the time. Truth is, he was easily worth that for us... and probably more.
Perkins, on the other hand, is simply insurance and he was had for nothing but a roster spot. Completely different situation and need.
Mozgov was needed to help turn this team into a legitimate title contender and he cost us our most valuable assets. Perkins was needed to help insure that Mozgov's impact won't be totally and completely lost if he is off the court in a key situation. He cost us nothing.

I expect him to play 10-15 minutes a game, maybe. Yeah, he'll play. The beauty of having Perkins is that now, when we take Mozgov out of the game, we don't have to "go small." That option is still there with Love/Thompson, Love/LBJ, Thompson/LBJ and toss Marion in there when he gets back healthy. I'm sure we'll still utilize it quite a bit.
But now, unlike before, Blatt actually has the option of taking Mozgov out and not losing the size on the interior. This will allow Thompson to play more at his natural position and Timo the opportunity to sit regardless of the lineup the opposition has on the floor.
Just basically gives the roster much more flexibility. Perkins will play in pretty much every game, I'm sure. But, he won't be out there for 20 minutes a night like he was in OKC. I'm not saying it will never happen, but not consistently.
At least, that's my best guess at the situation. Today's NBA is all about roster flexibility and versatility. The Cavs added something in that category that they didn't have prior (a true backup center). Hell, Blatt could even get crazy occasionally and go with a BIG rotation... LBJ/Shump/Marion/Mozgov/Perkins. That group could literally switch everything and expend very little energy defensively.
