Dragic was just signed as well.

How long is treatment/recovery?

Heat can't catch a break.

Just an overall sad situation. It ruins any shot they had at contending and weakens the East that much more.

Hope he survives and is able to continue playing bball.

Blood clot in both lungs, sad situation.

I wonder how his future will look like. Do you think he might consider retirement ?

I was really looking forward to seeing how the new look Miami Heat would close out the season. I hope he gets through this and comes back stronger/better than ever.

Get well soon Bosh.

Hahaha. No.

Bilateral pulmonary clots in a young individual is incredibly serious. Especially with no obvious precipitant. There's a very good chance he will be on lifelong Warfarin.

Joking aside, I hope he gets better is fully healthy next season. I'm interesting in seeing what the Heat can do with that lineup.

Depends on the diagnosis.

I'm sure Chris Bosh is in this thread right now reading all the excellent medical opinions on his situation, that of who have no access to his medical records. We have geniuses on this forum. Pure geniuses.

Depends on the diagnosis.

No it doesn't. You put the patient on Wafarin for at least 6 months to a year, almost certainly longer.

Yeah I'm only saying this as a 2nd year doctor who probably fills in at least 5-6 VTE prophylaxis forms every day for surgical/medical ward.

Damn what a blow to the Heat fans and most of all to Bosh...

Trade peanuts for a star player and things are looking up and all of a sudden your key player is out for the year with a serious health issue...feel bad for everyone involved.

As much hate as Bosh and the Heat have gotten over the last 4.5 years, Bosh is the last dude I'd wish bad things upon. Miami should shut Wade down in March and hopefully they are all healthy for next season.

Two first round picks arent peanuts.

top 7 protected in 2017 and unprotected 2021

Obviously wouldn't have made the move if Dragic wasn't planning on returning after this season.

Riles knows what he's doing, he's giving Wade and Bosh another chance for a deep Playoff run before it's all said and done.

Dragic
Wade
Deng
Bosh
Wiltside

The situation with Bosh was a big blow and unpredictable, but Riles is a master when it comes to putting together good teams. Riles has never built teams with draft picks, he does so by making trades/signing FAs. Dragic is worth those picks. It's not like the Lakers when they gave up a bunch of picks for a 39 yr old Nash.

Yeah that could easily become like the Nets trade for KG and Pierce too. The picks are 2 and 4 years out and tthat's an old team.

Not a doctor but I've had patients who were on warfarin/coumadin for 20+ years or all their adult life. I've worked as a phlebotomist before.

huh, so their bigman rotation is now birdman/haslem/whiteside?

Also, the espn report says one lung http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/12360066/miami-heat-star-chris-bosh-miss-rest-season-due-blood-clots-lung.

Also, even when he comes back, after 6 months+ of very limited physical activity, he will take further time to get back to being bosh. Best of luck to him, but hes likely not an impact bball player until at least 2016/2017

Is there any word on how this condition will affect his future as a homosexual? Will he be able to make a full recovery as a homosexual or will this fundamentally change the way he's gay?

Oh, im not saying it was a bad trade.
Looked great until Bosh went out, but those picks could easily come back to haunt them if Dragic and Whiteside leave. Especially if Bosh is gone for more than a season.

Well you can't blame Riles for going for it because Wade and Bosh are not going to be around for too long. It's not like he's had a great track record of rebuilding teams with draft picks and the 2017 is protected in case things go south.

As a Heat fan this obviously stings, but basketball is pretty meaningless in the grand scheme of things. The most important thing that is by all accounts Bosh will be okay. He's one of the genuine good guys in the league.

As for the Heat, it's still going to be an exciting finish to the season, and next year they should be a title contender (assuming Dragic is signed and Whiteside continues to develop).

Best wishes to Bosh. Seems like a genuinely nice person and this obviously extends beyond basketball. Hope for a quick, full recovery.

Miami should sign Blatche and Beasley in no time.

I like Beasly, but the fact that Spolestra let him go after the huge whole at SF after Lebron left means he's done with this team.

I was just thinking this .. definitely sold their souls .. everything backfiring and going wrong for them now .. but hey, those 4 seasons were a lot of fun .. they got a lot for it ..

as for bosh's condition .. can you even continue playing if you're on a permanent regimen of blood thinners even if you're otherwise healthy ?

No, the blood thinners would make any normal injuries/bruises catastrophic.
