They would want you to believe that it's expression of the soul. Of their personality... But really it is just herd mentality. They envision themselves as the standard, that which they feel is unique, bold and spirited, but is actually boring, mundane and typical.

We live in an age where edgy is no longer edgy. Where hipster is no longer hipster. Mainstream is not much from independent.

He definitely had one in the 90s/early 2000s though. Some reporter for SI asked him why he had it and Tim's response was 'why not?'

Nah, I do tattoos and have tattooed NBA players and tons of DI/II European league guys and it started w Rodman. Then it just evolved from there. I've been doing this for 23 years so I've seen it from it's inception.

It might be worth noting that the majority of these dudes will never have to experience a real job interview. The consequences of getting a neck tat or whatever are pretty much erased with financial freedom.
