View Full Version : "No excuses."

I've heard this term thrown around a lot this season towards several teams (OKC, Cleveland, Hawks, etc).

So let's make a list. What teams legitimately fall under the "no excuses" category?

EDIT: (To make list teams need to be nominated at least twice)

Cavaliers
Warriors
Hawks
Bulls
Thunder
Clippers

Every team out West (when healthy).

Atlanta, Chicago and Cleveland out East.

No excuses=championship or bust, correct?

Does it have to be linked directly with a trip to the finals because I feel like my Raptors should have no excuses with advancing to the second round. (the expectations are halted there though)

assuming health isn't of concern.. okc, atlanta, chicago cleveland & golden state, imo.

cleveland has the most excuses realistically as they're a new team, but anyone with a kyrie/love/lebron trio should be highly regarded.

Durant has been battered all year. Pending on the severity of his injury an excuse can be made. That's not factoring in the lowly playoff seed they'll end up with due to others being injured as well.

I made a topic on that once that somehow did not end up a trolling fight....but nobody had an answer.

Everyone agreed that rationally it made no sense but that fans dont have to be rational.

I kinda do though....

The idea that more than one team can be so favored as to have no excuse not to win....is just ****ing idiotic.

The closest thing to what should be a "no excuses" team is the Clippers. They've had what people have called the "best PG in the game" the past several seasons. They have a perennial All-Star/All-NBA player leading the team with 22.5/7.5/5.1 on > 50% shooting who will be back in time for the playoffs. They have another big man with the best FG% in the league going for 20/20 on any given night. They have sharpshooters (Reddick) and role players that can go off (Crawford). They've had 4 years to develop chemistry within their core. And they have a championship coach. There is no excuse for this team.

OKC is a new team, have had injuries all year, play in the west, and won't be able to have HCA in any of the series they play. Plus Scott Brooks.

Lol @ Cle having the most excuses.

If they (Clippers) had any excuses one might argue that their bench is one. Imo - they're more akin to being underachievers/disappointing than a team with zero excuses.

Clippers, Healthy OKC, and maybe the Cavs are only no excuse teams.

Hawks, Warriors, Bulls should be OK with Conference Finals because they haven't really done shit before and there is a process of winning it all. You don't go from first round exit to champ.

Rest of the teams have shifting rosters, never done much before in the playoffs, aging players (Spurs), etc. such that they should not be finals or bust in my opinion.

Are the Bulls even a bigger "no excuse" team? (assuming everyone's healthy)

They are even more stacked than the Clippers with a top 3 coach.

to say "no excuses" means you can't come up with an excuse.

so far, i can't think of a team without an excuse. every contender has one.

OKC - Scott Brooks
Cavs - first year together, K. Love still trying to fit in, Kyrie and K. Love has never played in playoffs
Spurs - old
Warriors - Finals virgin, first timer coach
Hawks - inexperienced, first timer head coach, no true superstar
Bulls - Rose never healthy
Rockets - Dwight injured, McHale is an idiot
Clippers - weak bench, Doc Rivers overrated
Memphis - lacks scoring, no true superstar

it's funny to think that OKC only has to replace Scott Brooks with someone like Spoelstra and they might win a title. what would have happened if they got Bud or Kerr this offseason? my mind is blown by the possibilities. we might have had a team beating the Bulls' 72-10 record.

I dunno, being weak defensive (18th), on the boards (19th) and having a thin ineffective bench (25th) are pretty legit excuses.

You can't have 8 teams in the West with no excuses, because the other 7 teams are exactly that.

A no excuse team is one that is overwhelmingly favored such that they should win no matter what happens. There is nobody in the West like that. It's a toss up.

How can we not say that about a Spurs team that continually represents that conference in the finals, or a Mavs team filled with champions that have been there done that?

Anything less than a championship for the Spurs or the Mavs, but especially the Spurs is a complete disaster.

And their players and Pop would tell us as much.

This is dumb...not all teams can have the same no excuse standart.

Only 1 Team can win, only 2 can make the finals.

No exuses (Championship or Bust) means there are no excuses to not achieve such goal.

This can only apply to a limited amount of teams.

The simple excuse for all these teams is that there were better, more loaded, talented rosters.

Only 1 can win.
