View Full Version : Probably the best NBA trio of all time has 30 games left

robert_shaww

Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker and Tim Duncan have just 26 regular season game left plus 4 in the playoffs (against the warriors, maybe 5)

so thats 30 games left for them. (if they play all of them....)

the spurs era is over. so sad.

I'd agree with that. The Spurs trio has longevity and 1 more championship, but aren't as high of quality.

Not better than the Bulls' trio.

Jordan > Magic
Prime Pippen > Old Kareem
Rodman and Worthy are a wash IMO.

Prime Pippen > Old Kareem
Rodman and Worthy are a wash IMO.

In 1985 Kareem still averaged 22/8/3/1/2 on 60/73, in 33 min, in the regular-season, still very impctful and a great player, still having one of the GOAT Finals putting up 26/9/5/1/1.5 on 60/77.
For the 1986 Playoffs he still averaged 26/6/3.5/1/2 in less than 35 min
...
I'd probbly still take that Jabbar over Pippen.

And I'd take prime Worthy over Bulls' Rodman... Much better scoring, better passing, solid rebounder and defensive player too.

This.

Spurs fans quick to rip on Parker and pump up Ginobli and Pop but look at the 2013 finals... Ginobli played like trash and Pop made some dumb decisions that cost the Spurs a series that they otherwise had in the bag.

Interesting comparison.

Worthy has a finals MVP, but Rodman's '96 finals performance is one of the most remarkable, dominating display of rebounding ever.

Also, 96-98 Rodman, while not being the otherworldly Spurs version, was still by far the best rebounder in the league and could effectively slow down the likes of Shaq and Alonzo Mourning.

I do think things are close overall, and yes, Kareem did still have some effective times, but that was not consistent the whole time they were a trio. Kareem had a significant drop his last few seasons with the trio.

Should've said that it obviously depends on what you want and already have... "In a vacuum", and overall, I'd pick Worthy though.

Not to downgrade Rodman ofc, dude's a top5 all-time rebounder, one of the greatest defenders ever too - he was at his overall best defensively in his Pistons days though (when he won DPOY's), but more suited to stop bigmen in his later years.

I agree with that. He was a perfect compliment to Jordan/Pippen though as we look at them as a trio.

and comparing jacksons bulls to the lakers squad. Its safe to say that the bulls, and even up to the 3peat 00-02 team, there were stronger emphasis on individual performances separated from players relying on one another.

To quote jackson himself "Kobe is out there running and making plays, something I've never had to ask Michael to do"

If anything, this is more so a rant on those bulls system and how finals mvp were determined on those teams more than anything else

I'm not sure i would agree on that.

I do believe Jackson said that because he had Pippen, which to itself is even more of a testament on how the abilities of those three individiuals really complimented eachother.

The Lakers have had the greatest 2 trios of all time:

1. Jabbar, Magic, Worthy
2. West, Wilt, Baylor

Jordan's trio comes a close second tbh.

Havlicek and Cousy only played 1 season together.

Sam Jones
Bill Russell
Satch Sanders

That's the trio that played together for 9 years and won 8 titles together.
