A mysterious dwarf planet has left scientists scratching their heads after a strange light was seen shining from it.
The dwarf planet Ceres has stumped boffins at NASA after a spacecraft sent to investigate it took these stunning pictures.

ceres is made of rock and ice. maybe it's a huge ice deposit with high crystal content mixed in.
sounds like a fun new project, anyway.

Pretty cool, and it's close enough to probably get to the bottom of it in a relatively short time frame.

Can we send you there to investigate?

Sucks that we're gonna waste all this money just find out it was nothing more than a reflections off of the camera lens
Waste of money? This spacecraft was launched in 2007, way before we knew about this "glare." If anything, this justifies the money that was spent.
Intrigued to see what we find on this Tyrion Lannister planet.

If it's just rock and ice, best case scenario what does anyone expect to find?

a lot of things are 'just rock and ice', but this already appears to be one of the features of the solar system. like, the giant red spot is 'just a storm' but what a storm!
plus, rock covers a wide potential mix of elements... crystals... potential new information about how the solar system formed... how middle-band dwarf planets form.

The one bigger bright spot is almost dead center in that crater... it's the other smaller light that is more interesting to me.
