IMO, yes. If a player fails a test, it should be at the digression of the team whether or not they want to continue to pay him/have him on the team. If a player is underperforming and using drugs, the team should have every right to get rid of him with no repercussions.

I'm bringing this up in reference to Larry Sanders, but he is certainly not the only case.

Depends on what type of drugs. Is is weed? cocaine? PED?

If it's a PED, yes contract voided.

If it's weed, a suspension and a fine.

Cocaine. Send them to rehab. If violated again termination.

No. Just for some weed? Now maybe for some crack, meth or something....Remember weed is just labeled a drug by the federal government for reasons we won't get into here, dating all the way back to the early 1900's....Anyone with some sense knows its not an actual "drug". Sure, void their contract for real drugs including many prescribed "medications"...

Tell that to any other job where you get tested and fail due to weed

I agree. PEDs are the only thing that should immediately void contracts.

Marijuana is legal in many states including my own (oregon)and should be legal in every state.

Employers have no problem with someone who is an alocohilc, shows up to work hung-over, calls out cuz they're hung over etc. That's all good.

But someone who hits a pipe every night before bed is not fit to be employed?

It is a fuhcking joke.
Let players smoke as much weed as the fuhcking want.

What people do outside of work is none of their employers business and should not be held against them.

At some point in life you being the average joe you are will need to suppress your envy of the nicely paid athlete. That's all this boils down to. Couch potatos, guys who couldnt cut it in sports still upset at the jock that gets the hot babe, drives the cool car and has perks out the ass.

That's because it's specified when you sign the contract that it is voidable if you fail a test..I doubt the PA would agree to this being allowed

I understand this. I'm just stating how it should be, not that I think it will actually happen...
