View Full Version : Why is Curry an MVP candidate?

Can anyone objectively say he's on par with Lebron, Westbrook, Davis, Harden, or Durant (when healthy)? Every one of those GM's would block the Warriors number if they offered Curry for any one of those guys. He's a good player having a great season on a stacked team. No way a non-top 5 player should get the award. He'd be up there with Rose and Nash as the worst in history.

It should always be a top 5 player though. Especially when every one of those player listed are on winning teams.

Why is Harden considered an MVP candidate when he got shut down by Klay twice this year?

because for some reason people think curry is the sole reason the warriors are winning. They discount the two Defensive player of the years runners, all star/elite shooting guard, 2 former all stars, and 2 guys off the bench who could start on any team, and their nice prospect Curry isn't a guy who you can rely on the playoffs. Miniature durant at best.

Most VALUABLE Player
this is the inherent problem with the award. What does it actually mean? Most people just think it means best/most effective player, but what it really means is how dependent a particular team is on one player.
I was thinking Curry earlier in the season but its really hard to look put him above Lebron at this point.

Davis goes out = the Pelicans are a scrub team that can't beat the Knicks and Sixers. Lebron goes out/starts slow, the Cavs horrifically underachieve and can barely keep their head above water in a historically bad conference. Durant/Westbrook go out, the Thunder are fighting for a 10th seed in the West. Harden hasn't been out, but he's carried the Rockets to a very good record while Dwight has missed time. Curry doesn't play well, he has Thompson, Lee, Green, Bogut, Speights, Barnes, Iggy, etc. picking up his slack.

Not at all. I wouldn't trade Davis for anyone. But as a player right now? He's every bit in the same conversation. Lebron at his best and healthy, in-form Durant are in a tier of their own. But Curry deserves to be in that 2nd tier just as much as anyone else in the league. Especially if ****ing Harden is there, my god.

brah its clear you haven't been watching warrior games the past 3 years. When Curry sits out it's a legit night and day difference.

Pelicans have beaten the Clippers and Raptors without Davis, and just won two in a row without him.

As far as value he's clearly the most valuable player in the league. But I think Harden's going to win it. Lebron is the most valuable GM though...

Best player on the best team. That's been the usual criteria for a while now. Only special stories/circumstances change this.
I personally disagree with this theory. I think it's Westbrook or Anthony Davis this season. One man's opinion.

Why is Harden considered an MVP candidate when he got shut down by Klay twice this year?
Curry shot 29% today against Kyrie, who is considered to be one of the worst defending PGs in the league. He's also had bad shooting performances against Darren Collison, Derrick Rose, Damian Lillard (another below average defender), Trey Burke, and Russell Westbrook earlier this season. The hell does that mean for Curry then?
I hope you're trolling cause your post is legit retarded. Like the MVP is decided by getting "shut down" a couple times throughout the entire season. FOH...
And Harden didn't even get "shut down"... 25 ppg on 41% FG in 4 games. Oh yeah, dude totally got his ass handed to him :lol

The best player does not automatically win MVP.
If that's the case, Jordan would have won 8 and Shaq 3 or 4.
Sure, Curry is not the clear cut best player but he's the anchor of the best team in the league. I expect the award to go to him or Harden.

Eye test and stats test, he's been a good defender this season. Ask any of the actual Cavs fans (not the branstan rejects).

Apparently non Cavaliers fans haven't gotten the memo. Kyrie is not a bad defender this year. He's applying the effort he used to only expend on offense on both ends, and results are there to be seen.

All of those guys were worthy candidates as well.
I currently have James Harden as my MVP.

It's as simple as Curry being the best player on the best team in the league as to why he is the top MVP candidate right now. Plain and simple.
Personally, I think that as of right now Westbrook is playing like he is the MVP of this league. If the Thunder can somehow climb from the 8th seed, all the way up to at least the 4th seed, then there is just no way that anyone else wins MVP. Thunder have clawed back into playoff contention after a rough start plagued with injuries and have been ascending steadily, due to Westbrook's insane level of play.

Isn't Cleveland like 2-10 without LeBron?
And isn't Cleveland 15-3 since LeBron's return?
How more valuable can you realistically be?
This year's Miami is basically last year's Miami minus LeBron plus Deng and Whiteside. And look where Miami is in the standing. And you think LeBron isn't VALUABLE enough?
Taller than CP3

No Kobe, no Lebron, no Durant, no Melo, no D Rose......someone's gotta be MVP in this weak era.

Curry is also very good looking and the closest you can get to an MVP caliber white guy.

Now what else happened when they went 2-10 and when they went 15-3? What other roster changes were there? What injuries were there during the season and at what times?
Same goes for Miami. What injuries took place during the season and to who at what times?
I don't even think you're trolling, you just won't look at everything that's happened objectively when it comes to LeBron. He has not been removed from any rosters in a vacuum. Plenty of other changes occurred to influence the way things played out for each team this year.

Every team goes through injuries and roster changes. Sounds like you will keep finding excuses why it was not solely on Lebron. It may be somewhat true, but as a Heat fan who have watched almost every single Heat game for the last 10+ years, I know the differences between having Lebron and not having Lebron. There was a reason why casual fans said "Miami replaced Lebron with a very good all star SF in Luol Deng so they should be a top 3 team still", which I did not agree, because there was no way Deng was ever going to be the team's best scorer, passer, ball handler, facilitator, defender etc. In 2010 Cleveland won more games than any team but in 2011 they lost 28 straight games and became the worst team in the league. Either coincidence or they lost Daniel Gibson?
