Neither was Mo Williams, stan. Nobody blames LeBron for the 2007 Finals. They were completely overmatched and despite shooting 35.6%, he still averaged 22 points, 7 rebounds and 6.8 assists.

So Lebron was getting hated for the off-court behaviors/hype and not for the on court performance, meaning all the hate Lebron gets has nothing to do with basketball, ok, i get it now.

Cause LeBron is better, everyone knows. But he also lost with prime MVP level Dwyane Wade, and prime Chris Bosh too. So ... that kind of throws the whole argument between both about their failures out the window. In 2012, Harden went MIA. KD showed up. In 2011, LeBron himself went MIA and let his teammates hanging.

LeBron isn't made for the finals. He's the worst finals performer in history. I'm talking about eye test here. This guy just doesn't have it in him to be a good finals performer. He lacks the heart, the urgency, the fortitude. It's why he shot 35% in his first finals and scored 17ppg in his second.

LeBron was supposed to be the first option. His teammates tried to get him hyped up but he froze.
He ruined Miami in 2011. They trusted him to take them home but instead it sparked the biggest choke in sports history.
Lebron is responsible for the biggest choke in sports history. No matter how many stacked teams he plays for, and no matter what happens from here on out... LeBron will always be known as the guy responsible for the biggest choke in the history of sports.

It's something LeBron has struggled with his whole life.
Let's not forget he choked his junior year in high school. He let his team lose the state championship against an all-white team.
LeBron had a chance to tie the game with a 3 but he chose to pass it to his teammate instead so he could take the pressure shot.
LeBron has never been a finals/championship performer. It's just not in his DNA. I'll never consider the guy a true great. He's all stats, no substance.

The answer to the OP is LeBron simply is held to a much higher standard than any other player of his era. Durant could not win with Westbrook, Harden, Ibaka and gets a pass. Chris Paul has Griffin, Jordan and STILL can't get past the second round. Carmelo has made it to the conference finals only once. And so on. LeBron is the one guy expected to win every year and if he does not it is a massive disappointment.

Yup, and it sucks. I want to see him succeed because of his otherworldly talent. But he's disappointed us far more than he has showed us why he's some sort of all-time great. He just doesn't have it in him, like say, an MJ or Kobe.

You're wrong. He got no flack for losing last year. He's responsible for the biggest choke ever, and his team in 2012 was more experienced and vastly outplayed OKC.
Why would Durant get flack for losing at 23 years old when his teammates were vastly outplayed?
Isn't that the excuse for LeBron in 2007? Even though he shot a miserable 35% from the field and had no urgency what so ever.

Well said. He talks the talk but can't walk the walk. Who respects guys like this? Oh, that's right.... people who have loser mentalities. Just look at this thread. You have full grown men sounding like children throwing out ridiculous insults defending their hero, LeBron James. These people are at the bottom of the barrel in life.
Exactly. Basement dwellers, foreigners who don't fully grasp NBA ball, and grown men with neckbeards. It's entertainment for us, though. I love watching them get absolutely wrecked in embarrassing fashion on here, just like their idol on the big stage.

And he never will be. What makes the whole situation worse is that the millennial instead of feeling for the Jordan era fans knowing that we would like to see a truly better player here and now, instead resorts to laughable tactics and claiming that Bron is more than he really is. At what age does reality set in for these types? The more posts I read from them the more I feel that they truly believe that Bron is the best simply because he is all they have and the best that THEY have seen, despite many of us having seen more than one era and knowing the real truth. It's really sad when you think about it.

Yup, and it sucks. I want to see him succeed because of his otherworldly talent. But he's disappointed us far more than he has showed us why he's some sort of all-time great. He just doesn't have it in him, like say, an MJ or Kobe.
Kobe? Kobe was never held to this high a standard. The only guys held to the kind of standard applied to LeBron are people like MJ, Wilt, Magic.
He got no flack for losing last year.

Why would Durant get flack for losing at 23 years old when his teammates were vastly outplayed?
How many times has Durant won 55+ games and made at least the WCF? What is the result? 0 rings, 1 Finals appearance where OKC was backdoor swept. Can you imagine LeBron with that kind of resume?

Hey, ya ****ing retard. You think OKC was ready in 2011? Even with Dirk playing the best basketball in his career and Dallas simply being the better coached and more experienced team?
2014 Ibaka was hurt, and we took them to 6 games.
You wanna talk about LeBron. AT 26 HE WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE WORST CHOKE IN SPORTS HISTORY. Durant is 26 years old. He has nothing close to what LeBron pulled in 2011. LeBron was 0-2 in the finals at Durant's age. His teams were healthy too and he PLAYS IN THE EAST.
Durant has lost to the eventual champions every single year except 2013 when Westbrook was out for the season. Can you imagine if Durant made the finals this year and only scored 17ppg?

Absolutely true. But Durant doesn't have that "ring or bust" target on his back with or without teammates being injured. Like you said, Heat were still expected to win when Bosh got injured. Durant just isn't in that same league of expectations because he isn't as big of a force. Like you said, if LeBron was on the Thunder last year, and Ibaka got injured, people would still have said anything less than a chip would be a failure.
Everybody got on Durants ass last year for being bullied by Tony Allen and even Chris paul at times.. and gave him tons of shit for Westbrook bailing him out.
He had plenty of expectations.. but he's playing in a conference where everybody has a great complimentary star and pieces.. Paul has blake.. Gasol has zbo and xonley.. dwight had harden.. aldridge has lilliard.. steph had klay.. and that's not even getting into goat coached vet spurs and mavs.
So saying he had westbrook doesn't really matter.. it's all relative to who you face. If he had Conley tony allen and zbo inatead of wb/ibaka his team might actually be better.

Everyone thought he passed the torch to Durant and Durant was the new face of the NBA. Then, Durant got shut down by midget like CP3 and Tony Allen in the playoffs, Westbrook turn him into 2nd option and he got less all-star votes than Marc Gasol. Yeah, face of the NBA:lol :lol
:oldlol: Durant will never be the face of the NBA, even if Lebron retired tomorrow. There's just no wow factor with his game or personality. Fans don't respect players who are phony, and thus we have players like Gasol surpassing him in popularity right after he just won MVP.
Like I said, it's funny and sad at the same time. The NBA is going to be in a world of hurt once Lebron finally has to walk away.

And all of that would be irrelevant if his level of play didn't match what he said. And really? Using tattoos as a relevant argument to expectations of a player? Exactly. Other players have made big claims too. For example, Amare said "basketball is back in NY" when he became a Knick and no one even remembers it.
MJ didn't make claims either but he was still crucified before winning a ring because of his level of play.
Yup--and so was Wilt. They were essentially called stat padders by detractors and compared unfavorably to "winners" like Russell and Magic.
We have a good contemporary example in P. Manning. He isn't making claims but he is held to a higher standard than everyone except for Brady. Even Rodgers is not held to the same standard. Rodgers had not been back to the SB since 10'. If Manning did that he would be raked over the coals every year--especially given the way the Packers lost this year.

You have no idea what you're talking about. If Durant at 25 chose to team up with Wade and Bosh in their primes he would have the same exact expectations.
LeBron brings it upon himself. If you ditch your home state and act the way he did then of course you're gonna get MASSIVE scrutiny.
Durant is just now entering the age where he should be getting that championship or bust label. But in context, he's been injured all year and his team plays in a stacked conference.
You people are comparing two completely different personalities and situations and hanging on to "perception" to hype your hero. WHO CARES ABOUT PERCEPTION.
Study their level of play and put it in the context of their team and circumstances. That's it. Nothing else matters.

For your Manning example, not to derail the thread into football, but he imo deserves all the criticism of his postseason play he gets. His performance and teams scoring output has dropped EVERY postseason he's played in. Even the year he won the Super Bowl, he threw 3 TD's to 7 picks and had a 70 QB rating

Durant "entering the age..."
Sorry but LeBron had that expectation even when he was 22, and it wasn't because of a tattoo. It was because the media portrayed him to be the next Jordan, and his level of play was higher than anyone else in the league, aside from maybe Kobe at the time. Nobody expects you to win based on a tattoo you got. It's based on how good you are, and media perception.
If KD was on the same level, the media would be crucifying him for not having a ring right now, but they don't because his team is never really the favorite to win outside of 2012.
And KD had Harden/Westbrook/Ibaka and annihilated the west. He certainly had enough help to win a ring. His 4th option was better than LBJ's 2nd option when he was the same age.

Media perception doesn't matter. ESPN caters to casual fans like J shuttlesworth. They hype LeBron up so they can tear him down. He's A-Rod, Johnny Manziel, Yasiel Puig.... they make a lot of money off the guys personality. Same with Kobe.
Durant is similar to Aaron Rodgers in the sense that he's the best in his sport but hasn't had the greatest circumstances over the years. He doesn't have an attention seeking personality that ESPN wets themselves over.
Durant best in basketball. Rodgers best in football. Trout best in baseball.

any star is gonna look bad in a stat context if all you're doing is adding up losses and comparing it to wins. ie 2/5. Thats going to happen to everyone. KD will eventually start getting hated on for his 2012 loss to the Heat when people start allocating his Finals appearances even though he was never supposed to win. This is to be expected.
but saying Lebron got as much heat for losing in 2007 as he did in 2011 is just silly. The only reason he may have gotten a little additional hate for his lost to the Spurs is for getting swept out the building in 4 games. In fact, that's a very legitimate reason to criticize Lebron and i'm suprised he doesnt get more flack for it. An all - time great should NEVER get swept in a finals series.

I also remember non-LeBron fans blaming Durant for the loss to Memphis, but I can agree with you when you say that LeBron is held to a different standard, but for the most part, LeBron created that standard himself. Also if you finish with a 60 win record, shouldn't you be expected to win?

We should blame Lebron for his teammates not showing up in the playoffs?

I'm obviously not talking about Lebron fans when I say nobody hated on him. I'm talking about fans and media in general. He got hyped the whole year, and when he failed at the big stage, everyone acted like nothing happened. If you have an IQ, you would realize that westbrook and durant doesnt fit. They were losing to bad teams even before the playoffs.

Everyone knows that if the Heat had won the 2011 Finals against the Mavs, that DWade would be holding that Finals MVP Trophy. Seriously.
Also, AI willed a bunch of offensive zeroes to a Finals win against one of the most dominant playoff teams in NBA history. AI handed that Lakers team it's only playoff L.
LeBron couldn't even muster one W against that Spurs team in 2007, and that Spurs team was nowhere nearly as dominant as the Shaq/Kobe Lakers that AI faced. Try saying that LeBron's 2007 Finals team was worse than AI's Finals team. Go ahead.

The team as a whole should be held accountable, that's how basketball works.

Good, but that wasn't the case.

Well the 2001 sixers had a large veteran presence. Not to mention the DPoY, 6th man if the year, and a phenomenal coach.
And then there's the fact that Iverson wasn't a barely legal kid when that happened like Lebron was.
