View Full Version : Eric Gordon - A few years too late

When the Clippers dealt Eric Gordon, Many experts at that time believed this kid was big time. Like Harden big time. His handles were 'rush hour', his stroke was 'all night'. There were a few flash backs here and there of Gordon putting a game away in the 4th or putting up 12 points in a row. But most games, he has been an average shooting guard..

However this year gordon has been shooting 45% from the 3pt line. Thats some specialist 3 pt shooting considering his handles are about as good as anyones in the league. That being said its 2 years too late for him to blossom now. What could have been in a Davis - Gordon tandem with a Tyreke Evans as the core slasher would have been a dangerous team. Just shows that timing is so important and Gordon really messed himself over on this one.

He plays point as well as shooting guard. Positions are meaningless anyway. Magic Johnson was a big PG but he rarely defended PGs. Gordon didn't have to be the primary wing defender. Tyreke Evans/Jrue Holiday all had the physical tools to play defence.

He is 26 years old.

How is it too late for him exactly?

I'd take him on the Blazers in a heartbeat

26 year old who has been injured the last 3 years... If he was a healthy 26 year old that would be great but at 22/23 he had the opportunity to take the hornets under his wing and command big dollars. Gordon + Davis + Tyreke with Jrue coming off the bench as a scorer/facilitator would have been a dynamtic combination. They might still be able to pull it off next year but that window is closing now.

I honestly don't know, but how many games has he missed this year? Less than A.Davis I would assume.

I don't think it's too late for him at all. If injuries don't hold him back he will be a borderline all-star every year.

Just because the Pelicans window may be closing doesn't mean it's too late for Gordon or his career is over.(and I'm not sure how their window is closing when they have Davis, Evans, Holiday and Gordon all of whom are under age 27)

He could have 4-6 more stellar years with the Pelicans or another team.

I've always loved his game. I remember on Slam's top 500 players of all-time issue a few years back, he was ranked amongst the top 10 prospects to earn a spot on the next edition of the list (you had to have played at least five years in the League to make the top 500, which Gordon hadn't at the time of the list's publication). I was disappointed by how his career trajectory tailed off the last couple of years, but I have been very encouraged by his play this season, and especially by his three-point shooting percentage. He is still young, and I would not be surprised if he still becomes an All-Star caliber player.

Um, Eric Gordon never had handles... that was always his problem. He could only do 1 dribble moves.

Furthermore, he did get paid... the max.

I remember it when he destroyed MJ's arrogant and spoiled kids.
