:coleman:

Is this not the generally accepted position? Parker was an after-thought on 3 of 4 title teams.

But not even he will hold us back this year, as long as he plays less than 30 MPG.

Spurs have to win their first 2 west series on the road and possibly the west final on the road (unless they play OKC) in order to get to the finals. If anyone but Atlanta wins the east, Spurs would have home court in the finals (based on yesterday's standings).

As of yesterday's standings, these are the current west matchups:

1. Golden State
8. Oklahoma City

4. Portland
5. LA Clippers

2. Memphis
7. San Antonio

3. Houston
6. Dallas

I think Spurs could beat Memphis and Dallas, but I'd be worried about facing Houston in round 2. Now if they were to make the west finals, I think they could beat Portland, Clippers, and Oklahoma City (imagine a 7/8 west final), but Golden State would be a tough matchup.

I would expect the seeds to look a little different at the end of the season. There's about 20 games left and Spurs are half a game behind the 5th seed, 2 games behind the 4th seed, and 3 games behind the 3rd seed. Anything can happen between now and the end of the season, that's how close the standings are right now.

The funny thing about the Spurs is that a different player is the best player every time they win the championship

1999: David Robinson

2003: Tim Duncan

2005: Manu Ginobli

2007: Tony Parker

2014: Kawhi Leonard

Who will it be this time? Patty Mills?

Wouldn't surprise me, tbh.

Players like Bruce Bowen, JJ Barea, Jason Terry and Kawhi Leonard have embarrassed LeBron in the Finals before...if the Spurs meet a LeBron team again I wouldn't be surprised if Patty goes in on him too.

I'm cool with the general theme in your post, and I wish it were all true because I always liked D Rob, but I must point out -- 1999 finals statistics:

DRob -- 16.6, 11.8, 3blk, 51.8%TS, Ortg 109, Drtg 86, usage 24%

Duncan -- 27.4, 14.0, 2.2blk, 59.9%TS, Ortg 112, Drtg 89, usage 28.9%

I don't even remember it being that big of a gap in terms of the eye test, but any way you cut it, there is no way Duncan is not the MVP in 1999. Pretty insane to think the same guy who put up those numbers in 1999 is still competing for championships, in the hunt for defensive awards and even potentially another finals MVP. There are kids on this board that weren't born yet in 1999. Just bananas.

Yawn...you were probs following the Heat, making fun of us losing all our games to the better teams in the comp, laughing coz we couldn't beat OKC, etc....

I mean, when OKC ended our 20 game streak we looked like we could never beat them.

We all know playoffs is a different story.
