View Full Version : Why doesn't Carlisle just bench Rondo?

It's clear at this point that the Rondo experiment has failed and the Mavs aren't going anywhere with him playing big minutes. It's nothing against Rondo either, he's just a terrible fit in Dallas. The guy simply CAN'T play off the ball and the Mavs offense is centered around Dirk/Ellis.

The reason why Rondo played well in Boston is because as the Big 3 got older, they needed him to help create offense for them because they couldn't really do it themselves. The Mavs have plenty of players who can create for themselves and need the ball to do it. Plus, the Celtics big three were better off the ball than Ellis/Dirk (who are better off with the ball in their hands for the most part). Rondo simply can't run the show in Dallas like he did in Boston.

It seems like they're trying to accommodate Rondo by playing him big minutes/starting him even though it's clear to everyone that he's hurting them offensively with his flat out uselessness off the ball. Their solution to the Rondo problem is having him work with Dirk's shooting coach? :oldlol: The guy's been in the league for like 10 years and has always been a terrible shooter and yet they think they can make him into one?

If Carlisle wants to have any chance of winning the title he should just bench him or play him extremely limited minutes. Don't know why he isn't already at this point. Just accept the fact that it's a terrible fit and try to salvage the season by pushing him aside. They actually looked like a serious contender earlier in the season. Are they scared he's going to throw a fit? Then just send his ass home. It's sad watching a capable team throw away it's contending hopes like this.
