I'm trying to go to the East regional tournament this year: the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, NY is hosting two sweet 16 matchups on 3/27 and then the elite 8 game on 3/29. Tickets were sold at about $80 each but only crappy seats are left unless I go on stubhub.
I feel like I need a courtside view to enjoy the games, I can be upper level but I can't imagine watching a game from behind the basket. Tickets are being resold in the $160-220 range right now.
Do you expect ticket prices to drop as the games get closer? Or will it all depend on who is scheduled to play?

I don't know but I would think once the match ups are announced you could run the risk of higher prices with tickets becoming more desirable and also more scarce couldn't you? I guess the opposite could happen too

Not sure but when I was 18, a ton of my friends were thinking of going late March. A couple days before the elite 8 matchups. Tickets were like $80? I think. We almost went.

Yeah I'm not about to spend $150+ for a college game, although if you get tix for 3/27 you see 2 games. I'm gonna wait and see what happens, if I go I want to have somewhat decent seats.

Now.
Once the brackets are set, fans of the teams in those regions are going to buy up all the tickets hoping their teams makes it that far.

the best time would have been as soon as the tickets went on sale and were being sold for face value, im not sure when this was and I didn't even know Syracuse was hosting games till a few days ago

If you can find them now, then definitely now. Because once the bracket is set, like Christian says up here, fans will go after those tickets. But additionally, tons of tickets will get distributed to the schools for the student and alumni associations. And all of a sudden there won't be nearly as many seats available, and then those alumni and students flood the secondary market, and drive that price way up, through the stubhub scene and other sites.

most of the tickets have already been sold, the ones that I can find cheaply are horrible seats.
my plan right now is to wait, if people have trouble selling their tix on stubhub as the games get closer the price will be driven down, I understand it might go up but if it does I simply won't buy any

Looks like I made a good call waiting to buy. There are over 2400 tickets for Friday's sweet 16 and over 2700 for Sunday's elite 8 on stubhub. Ticket prices have been dropping and I'm guessing they'll drop even lower as we get closer to game day/
Lowest ticket price was around $100 when I made this thread, and there are available for $60-70 now.
Hopefully Villanova and Virginia both losing will cause the prices to go even lower.
