One of Big Pat's best games of the 94 season. Shaq dominates early on the game, with Ewing just 2/7 FG first half. In the second though Ewing takes over with 23p (11/16 FG) to outplay Shaq as the Knicks get an impressive win on the road...

Watching these two go head-to-head down low is so refreshing given the current state of the game and the way everything has become so perimeter oriented.
Ewing was drafted as the best defensive bigman prospect ever, with that ridiculous size, athleticism and length. He later became so good at that unstoppable baseline jumper and with his footwork in the post, but first and foremost he was a defensive freak of nature.
To see that kind of athlete match up with the size and power of a young Shaq? Awesome.
Both guys have their moments. It's easy to forget how good Pat was circa 93-94.

Shaq had some great post skills, even at that young age. Silly how people said he was just a big dunker.

He was more mechanical when he was younger but his touch around the rim was already there. I believe it was only after he got buttraped by Hakeem where he put work in and became much more smooth.

I remember watching this game. Ewing had such a warrior mentality, combined with great skill. He had the softest touch for a big man and a jumper that could extend to three point range, as seen in the video. And he often hit big shots in the clutch, unlike a lot of big men, including Shaq.
But Shaq, what can you say... Other than not really being a clutch player, or someone who always wanted the ball in close playoff games (actually a really big flaw), he was probably the most physically dominant, and explosive player of all time. Even in his second year as a pro, he dwarfs Patrick Ewing. In his prime, at around 300-330 in his late Magic and Laker years, he combined unparalleled strength, size and explosiveness. In his prime and even his twilight years, he could dunk all over even bigger players than himself such as Yao Ming and Sabonis, and could literally dunk and finish over triple teams with guys hanging all over him. And he also had a certain level of agility and skillset, although I would argue his overall skill was less than Hakeem, Ewing, KAJ, Walton, and perhaps Wilt. But he was, imo, physically more dominant and imposing than any of them. Definitely at top 5-10 GOAT.

Ewing just shat on Shaq. And this is old Pat, imagine peak Ewing during the 2000's? He'd average 30/14

Empty Stats. Either someone passed it to them so they could score or it was a dunk.
Both of which don't count.

'95 Finals? Shaq still managed to put up 28/13/6/3 on 61% TS, compared to Hakeem's 51% TS.

Great stats but there was an obvious skill difference between the two of them and Shaq got swept. Shaq's my favourite player but I ain't even mad though. Hakeem helped to mold Shaq into a true champion. :applause:

Shaq actually played well and did much better against Hakeem in the 95' finals than Ewing did the previous year, and Robinson in the 95' WCF. The rest of the team got outplayed by the Rockets.
Ewing gave a historically awful offensive performance, one of the worst ever from a great player in the finals, and Robinson just looked completely foolish trying, miserably, to stop Hakeem.

Damn, Knicks were 49-19 with that win. Not a better jump-shooting Center than Patrick in my opinion. That 3-pointer was nice!
