The stats prove that previous era bigs would score easier on the post than today's bigs:

The top 5 big men in post efficiency (points-per-possession, PPP) are Jonas Valcunious, Kevin Love, Donatas Montejunas, Lamarcus Aldridge, and Marc Gasol.

http://stats.nba.com/playtype/#!/post-up/?dir=1&sort=PPP&CF=Poss*GE*200&Season=2014-15&SeasonType=Regular%20Season

These guys all achieve the standard for elite efficiency of 1.00 PPP, despite having weak post games - this shows how much easier it is on the post - the spaced-out defenders and open paint of today's game are having a big effect.

Furthermore, all the bigs below from 1996 were better post scorers than today's top 5, so they'd ALSO be getting elite post PPP - and clearly, today's top 5 wouldn't even be in the top 10 if these guys were playing:

Hakeem
Shaq
Robinson
Ewing
Alonzo
Sabonis
Karl Malone
Barkley
Webber
Kemp

And probably Rik Smits, Vin Baker, Dino Radja, and certainly Derrick Coleman.

The league changed the rules in 2005 to increase the percentages on ball movement and dribble penetration, which have surpassed post-ups in some spots.. But the elite percentages of today's weak top 5 is proof that the percentages on post-ups themselves hasn't diminished at all - infact, they've probably increased, along with everything else (http://www.nba.com/2009/news/features/04/09/stujackson/index.html).

Jefferson doesn't draw fouls in the post and he's an inefficient scorer.

This post is nonsensical.

Don't shoot me, I'm just the messenger - The NBA is the 'troll' you are really mad at:

http://www.nba.com/2009/news/features/04/09/stujackson/index.html

NBA.COM: Doesn't the wide-open style benefit certain types of players? For example, wing players vs. frontcourt players?

STU JACKSON: The benefits of an open game are not limited to just perimeter players. An open game can benefit a post player as well. Remember, if the players are spaced wider and using more of the court, then defenses have to play those players closely because they're good shooters. The style actually serves to open up the middle of the floor. If a team has an effective post player, he would have more room to operate in the post.

And the stats shown in the OP prove the point - a league-leading 1.00 PPP on the post from Al Jefferson.

It's amazing how much better the bigs were in previous eras - heck, Sabonis and his 25 PER would be the best all-round big in today's game.

Based on Al Jefferson's nearly league-leading 0.97 Post PPP this season, we know that the following players from 1996 would be > 0.97 PPP from the post in today's game, and therefore bump Al Jefferson down to #11 or further:

Hakeem
Shaq
Robinson
Ewing
Alonzo
Sabonis
Karl Malone
Barkley
Webber
Kemp

Also, it's likely that Rik Smits, Vin Baker, Dino Radja, and certainly Derrick Coleman bump Al down even further.

Today's game is a bunch of 3-and-D play finishers - the entire game is based around the 3 ball and maintaining the spacing.. the game just doesn't look natural with the paint empty all the time.

And there you have it - Al Jefferson posts up a super-high percentage of the time, just like the bigs in previous eras, and yet he's leading the league in post PPP.

This is statistical proof that it's easier than ever to score on the post, since all these bigs from 1996 were better post scorers than Al Jefferson:

Hakeem
Shaq
Robinson
Ewing
Alonzo
Sabonis
Karl Malone
Barkley
Webber

Jordan dominated Hakeem... But the big question is what would he do with 'Big' Al... :kobe:
