Every interview and fight I watch for the UFC these guys show no remorse to throwing hammer punches on people defenceless on the floor, knees to the head, attacking/dislocating knee caps, pulling body parts with all their strength at angles they should not be in until they tap, etc.

Boxing the fighters are much more protected. It's a sport first. Their is a science to boxing. A lot of fights that go the distance without anyone getting hurt can still be exciting. MMA community raves about technique but when it comes down to it its about how much you are willing to hurt the next guy.

Also, I find it funny that you defend boxing, yet there is a greater chance of brain damage in boxing because the fight continues if they can simply get to their feet within 10 seconds. Refs break up UFC fights when somebody goes down and they don't look with it anymore.

Based on what scientific evidence, study, and sample size?

You do realize UFC allows kicks, knees, elbows to the head skin to skin. There is more power in that then hands in massive boxing gloves. Keep playin urself ****boi

Well yeah that's precisely the problem. MMA gloves aren't as big and soft as boxing gloves either. So in MMA when a big hit is landed on the head the fight is done. Never mind that hitting the head is far from the only way to win a fight in MMA.

In boxing hitting the head is the main goal. In boxing big hits accumulate and the brain just bruises and bruises and gets bounced around inside the skull. Many hard hits >>> one knock out blow in terms of causing brain damage.

To be fair, neither sport is going to have a great effect on the brain. It's just that those big boxing gloves are designed to protect hands breaking, cuts developing and to prevent easy knockouts. Make fights more consistent. They don't exists to prevent brain damage and do more harm and good in that regard.

Who the hell derailed this thread and made it about hits to the head?

Focus.

Does this happen in boxing?

If you need such evidence, then you shouldn't be spouting out that MMA fighers are sociopaths without scientific evidence, including a study and a sample size provided.

Boxing gloves are used to protect the hands, not the face. If anything, they make boxing more brutal since a fighter can swing balls out without fear of breaking his hands. Bare knuckle fighters have to be a lot more cautious.

sociopathy imo is just a bad word people describe for those that don't fit the traditional modes of society. I guess it depends why he's doing it? Some people fit to feed their families others legitimately like to hurt others.. depends which end of the spectrum i guess.

But yea you want to see sociopathy go to a litigation/criminal law firm.

I'm pretty sure there is a more accurate description for sociopath than that or the OP's way of determining who a sociopath is.

Like I said it's a way of describing people who don't fit to very very basic traditional modes of behavior of society. Things like liberal values, sex, abortion, etc may be up for debate but crazy aberrations like pedophilia, necrophilia, wanting to hurt people in general, etc are not.

It's a catch-all term for neurotic, schizophrenic or other behaviors that society has deemed inappropriate. Anyways I'm not websters but I've taken a lot of lit and phil classes and have a ton of credits that transfer to a minor. What it means to me is people who have no conscience and deliberately hurt people and then eat a sandwich.

Forget society's definition. I'm a human being. MMA fighters are human beings. I'm watching another human literally not give a shit if they kill another person or permanently damage them. That is a sociopath to me. MMA is dangerous. Someone will die in the octagon one day especially with all the PED use then this conversation will catch fire. These guys are roided up AND sociopaths, but because their in professional promotion and its on PPV it's okay. Y'all a bunch of brainwashed sheep. Pack of sheep. Baby sheep.

When you train MMA you see the sport differently. The anger and violence that is typically associated with fighting is non-existent. I trained in MT/BJJ/MMA for about 6 years, and when I watch fights I usually focus on the technique and strategy, as opposed to the damage and violence.

Sociopathy doesn't have an objective or accurate definition. It's just a construct we humans use to simplify the world/ pretend to understand people and their behaviours better.

Pretty much like the bulk of neuroscience/psychiatry tbh.

many sociopaths in the world. I think that the fact it's more likely there are ones in the higher levels of... bball/fighting/whatever is because of how hard you have to claw to get there.

I think people can be normal and channel their energy into something, though. A sociopath has no 'core.' A person can still take on a persona, probably a stronger one than the sociopath, if they have a core. Deep down all sociopaths are scared little bed wetters. Not that we don't all have fear, but stripping them will probably reveal something more pathetic.

I think to have a killer instinct in a sport where you could actually kill someone requires some suspension of the conscience. You have to be able to see a person as an enemy or obstacle while you're in the ring. Not sure if that requires you to be a sociopath outside of the ring but you have to block compassion to a great extent while you're fighting.
