Some of my best stories.
Back when I was playing earlier Pokemon games, like almost 10 years ago, I got to the part where you go into the cave to get Mewtwo. I wanted to catch him but kept messing up because it was super difficult. I was saving before I talked to it, so I restarting the game every time I messed up, and like after an hour I was like **** this, if I don't catch it the next time I am going to just give up and move on in the game. To my shock, this time it appeared but it was SHINY. Looked amazing. Without cheating, back in the day finding a shiny was nearly impossible. Looking at google now, apparently in the earlier generations -

When I finished Halo 1 for the first time
The smell of the new Xbox under the Christmas tree back in 01'
The big, bulky controllers
Took me and my older brother 3 days to complete it
When I was 16 I was doing a knife only game in Resident Evil 1 Remake for GameCube. I beat it, but the final boss didn't appear because of the choices I made throughout the game. I felt cheated, like I couldn't have bragging rights without defeating the final boss. So I loaded up my file in my invisible enemy game, which was right before the final boss. I went in there with a knife and just one first aid spray, and killed the invisible final tyrant in one try. Best part is my friend was in my room to witness it. I was so dominant at Resident Evil. 8)

I am not a highly skilled gamer so difficult things that many others have mastered are big deals for me.
-Actually completing the Super Mario Bros. turtle jump trick that provides over 100 lives (and the little ice cube-looking thing in the lives menu).
-Completing all the Golden Eye target times, unlocking every cheat.
-Beating my friend in a 2K2 double overtime thriller with a buzzer beating Terrell Brandon mid-range jumper from the baseline.
-Can't remember specifics, but getting gold on some of those Gran Turismo 4 license tests was a pretty big deal for me.

Something similar happened to me when I was using Ilyasova in NBA 2k8 on the Lakers and it was down to the wire. With Kobe doubled I pass it to him (he was my only three point shooter and was cheese with him) and made it, winning that playoff series.

I thought your story sounded suss with the timings of shiny pokemon and the games mewtwo was able to be captured in but man the fire red and leaf green ds versions are 10 years old now.... I feel old.
Any way I'd probably say beating alex kidd on master system for the first time. My cousins and I had a marathon all nighter playing it. We had all the janken matches written down and had to keep starting again when we messed things up.
I used to play counter strike a lot, we had a clan that player in the game arena league here in Australia, I got 3 team downs in a row against one of the top 3 teams which was cool. I made it in to the top 10 in Australia on the site that tracked css ratings (only tracked kill/death ratio and time played to get it though so isn't that good but still felt like a big achievement).
First time raiding MC in world of warcraft. My friends and I were total noobs but another guy we knew got us in to his guilds MC raid and it was crazy seeing that many people working on bosses together. Also on WoW back in the day we downed thrall in an orgrimaar raid, after the raid horde were killing everyone and I ended up stuck on my rogue in stealth in the middle of orgrimaar which was tense.

Playing Black Ops multiplayer and zombies with a bunch of my primary school friends back in the day. That was a really good game, and it seemed there was always sometime online to play with. Good memories.
Also, getting the PS3 and PS4 for the first time was pretty awesome.

SNES was my childhood.
Playstation/Playstation 2 were the golden years.
Playstation 3 I only play triple AAA games.
Heres a few:
-Final Fantasy 7 and 8 Final Boss Battles. Both times I had to invite my best friend over at the time to witness it . It took me a bunch of tries to get it done but I did! Those days that feeling of accomplishment would carry over for days because FF games were long as hell lol.
-Playing Super Mario Kart on the SNES with my older sister. We really don't see each other often anymore, and I actually found the game in an old box recently. It brought back some memories of Saturday/Sunday mornings. We used to play as Donkey Kong and Bowser and wreck everyone.
-Metal Gear Solid on Playstation. I, for some reason, didn't think Metal Gear REX would get activated and there would be a boss fight. Games up to that point aside from RPG games didn't really have boss fights like that. When REX DID get activated I literally paused the game and left the room due to the severity of the situation :lol . I was 9 or 10.
-Trolling the shit out of teammates on Grand Theft Auto 4 online and Metal Gear 4 online with my cousin. Funny times.

Favorite game memory ever was beating my older brother in 2k for the very first time. I was sick of him always beating me. I would have these crazy rages of me cussing and you know... throwing the controller on the ground and everything. I remember one time I was up by 1 with 10 seconds left. He of course beat my with a ridiculous buzzer beater. I ended up breaking the ps2 controller.
Finally got my chance to beat him around early 2001 and I had just turned 11 years old. We were playing NBA 2K1 and I had the Sixers. My brother had the Lakers. We were playing with the 2001 finals team before it even happened. Anyway, I blew him out. Talked shit to his face all game and he was butthurt. One of those types of days you'll never forget.

Best moment ever?? me and 3 other friends used to play smakcdown vs raw 2008 or something cant remember which one it was (when evolution was around??)
and we sometimes used to get drunk and play 3 on 1 handicap matches and just purely beat the crap out of the one.
They all selected evolution members.

A lot of mine are just havin a ball with buddies but I do have two stand outs:
One time a bunch of people were hanging and we were playin some Xbox and we were playin a bunch of games when someone suggested we play Fight Night Round 3. I was like no because no one will be able to beat me. And so they thought I was just talking shit and called me on it. Cut to 17 matches later they finally decided to give it up and move on.
Another time there were 4 of us playing Tekken 5 alllllll night. We were past 250 matches on the night. I picked Hwoarang cause he's my main, my friend picked Jin cause he's his main. We double KO'd twice, looked at each other, and called it a night.

I wish I had transferred the picture over to a new phone, because I had proof, but eaaaaaaaasily the time I one deathed the original Ninja Gaiden for the NES. I played that shit every day one summer trying to beat it without using a game over, and I eventually did it in one glorious run that I'll never be able to replicate.
OP: You better still have that Shiny Mewtwo, that's ****in awesome. I got into Pokemon super late (2005, when I was 17) because I was "too cool" for that shit as a kid (lol), and I've never seen a shiny in the wild.
Playing the very first real 3D FPS (Quake) on my very first computer and then years later playing Quake II, StarCraft, Half Life and the very first real 3D Teamplay Multiplayer FPS (Counter Strike) and best FPS multiplayer ever that caused millions of wannabes afterwards (like Call of Duty etc.) on my very first broadband connection.... and thereon being from a generation that created and/or made famous all gaming terms & many chat terms used today (and not just in games)... like... noob... pwned... 1337... hax / h4x0r etc. (and just any numbers/letters combinations)... and maybe even lol/lmao/rofl/stfu/u mad bro?/zomg/wut/wtf and so on.... you name it... :)
Had so many clans & to many moments to mention! In CS i got so good/serious at one point i was in a pro Clan that traveled around EU battling the very best Clans for some really nice prizes (money).

RE4 has an argument for best game ever made. Especially on Wii where you can aim properly.
Anyway, to add:
Finally beating Mike Tyson in Mike Tyson's Punch Out.
Also, in Metal Gear when fighting Psycho Mantis and you have to put your controller in port 2 so he can't control your mind anymore. So meta.

You ever see the video of the kid who beats the whole game blind folded? It's a game based off ques & patterns so it's not far fetched, but it's still a pretty crazy accomplishment.

My brother and I were beasts in NHL2k6 and 7. Cleaned house in one particular tournament and then dropped the ball in the finals. We played the last game on an imax screen which kinda threw me off. Would have won a trip to Cali to watch the All Star game + a few other perks.

Too many to mention. I know almost no one here played this game but there was a mission I did in FreeSpace 2 where you and your commander are flying as double agents and soon thereafter your true identity is discovered. I screwed up and let my commander get blown up pretty much right away, so it ended up being a stand off between me and 7-10 fighter pilots. What followed was the most intense sweat inducing battle I've ever been a part of in my gaming life. Dogfight after dogfight, focus shields on the rear, or the left, then back again until I took out every last one of them (sometimes ramming my ship into theirs). It was insanity but I came out victorious.

Nope but it makes sense. The Mike Tyson fight is so fast you have to memorize it. You can't possibly react quickly enough. That's why it took me forever. :lol
I beat Dark Souls without healing. The only time I was allowed to heal was right before a boss fight.
I almost beat Contra without dying at all. I died one time, on like the 6th or 7th level. Heartbreaker.
I beat Resident Evil 1/2/3/Code Veronica with only a knife.
I beat the Ultimate Weapon in Final Fantasy 7 at a pretty low level. Like 54 or something. Not the lowest ever but it was pretty rough.
I beat Left 4 Dead 2 on Realism Expert using only melee weapons, with 3 computer AI teammates.
Back on Halo 3 MLG I got matched with pros a few times and had some good moments. I got a few good snipes on Saiyan, outBRd Chig.

Got a couple in a bunch of random games but this one is one of my favs
I was playing a kid in 2k10 who played all the time and kicked my ass every time. This day though I was playing as the Thunder vs. the Celtics (this was back when they were really good and had the Big 3). I was able to keep Ray Allen from knocking down constant 3s like usual so the game was really close. Durant and Harden were playing solid. But my nikka Westbrook was on fire. I was taking it to the rim and raining jumpers. End of 4th quarter, I'm down by 4 and kid has the ball, I get a steal from Jeff Green who kicks it out to Durant for open jumper. I force a miss from him and get the ball back with about 15 seconds down 2. I waste time with Westbrook and then start to drive and step back at the last second right behind the 3 pt line and drill and a shot with less than a second left to seal the win
This one, though I still think about this shit sometimes. Such a classic game except this time, I'm playing Madden
I still remember most of the big plays of this game. I'm playing as the Redskins against a friend who was using the Patriots in Madden 09 (so long ago lol). He starts off with a 21-3 lead and I can't get anything going on offense. At halftime, he's winning 31-10 and I'm looking pretty screwed. That’s when I begin to turn it up. I pretty much ride Portis and get a TD. I finally get the guy to go 3 and out. Tom Brady was killing me that game. I start my next drive and get to about midfield before the 3rd quarter ends with me down 31-17. First play of 4th quarter, I hit Santana Moss for a deep TD to so I’m only down by 1 score. But then I fck up on defense and this dude pretty much runs the clock AND scores so I’m down 38-24 with about 1:30 left. I remember getting a good kickoff return and then throwing some big passes so I get to about the 20 yard line. This is where I get lucky as hell. Next play, I throw an interception but my WR tackles the defender who fumbles it and I pick it up and run it in for a touchdown. Holy shit. About a minute left. Dude tries running the clock but I use all my timeouts and get the ball back with like 50 seconds left. The guy smartly runs deep cover so I throw it in the middle of the field for 10-20 yard gains. I gotta run hurry up offense at this point and I get to his 30 and there’s only about 15 seconds left. I throw another quick pass that gets me to around the 15 and I quickly run up and spike it with about 5 seconds left. My final play.. and I run a quick slant pass to Portis who breaks a tackle and gets all the blocking to get a TD. I’m flipping the fck out at this point and my boy is screaming and cursing. OT now. Coin flip, and he gets the ball first. Fck, I gotta face Tom Brady now. First pass, he tries throwing a screen and Carlos Rogers picks it off and takes it home :lol. Maybe my most memorable game ever
Gonna need explanations on how you did it vs. Tyrant on the Airplane and Alexia man and the hunters...
Tyrant you don't have to hit too much because you eject that box at him. Hunters you just dodge. Alexia I don't even remember anymore. I would get wrecked if I tried it now.

Playin NES vs my friends big brothers, beating them in Conflict when I was like 8 or 9.
All of that NES shit, really. Having dudes over and playing with other people there is way better than online shit, even tho I've crushed some people in online gaming, esp bball games.
Playing SNES with my best friend and his sister, who was my childhood sweetheart. Playing Secret of Mana with them. I bet that the time we played it was probably like a few hours total, didn't beat it ( me and him beat it, tho), but it was still a priceless moment.
And we used to play Mario Kart and we kept making him quit whenever he fell off of rainbow road 150cc. We were like NAH you gotta get it. It worked tho, he finally got good.
Playing SNES fishing games with my hillbilly friend...
Playing GT1-3 and doing endurance races.
Basically, I still play games now, but when I think about how much more fun I had back then, it's depressing. Now, I mainly play bball games, cuz I've put in so many thousands of hours playing them, I can pick up any bball game and be good at it even online. Street, 2k, Jammit... whatever. Give n Go.

D2 was one of the most timeless games of all time, a true GOAT
D3 was yeast but apparently with the expansion it was yahtzee
Played Path of Exile for awhile which a lot of the D2 fans consider to be what D3 should have been. Really fun and you have pretty much endless customization of builds, the skill tree is huge

Literally just finished it for probably the 30 time since it came out
Currently playing the 2nd one as we speak with the restoration mod... In my top 5 games of all time
I've been waiting for them to make a third one ever since I finished the 2nd one on xbox back in 04 or 05
Hopefully with disney taking over they can atleast get another rpg style star wars again... Although i'd prefer if they let obsidian do it, seeing as how good the 2nd one is (when all the missing content is restored its just as good as the 1st if not better due to way more depth and customization etc)

Playing Fahrenheit aka Indigo Prophecy for the first time. The story line has blown my mind. It was incredible. I was missing a week in school and was acting sick just to play the game. I have it as number 1 of all time even 10 years after playing it.
Since I was one of the best Counter Strike players in my area, I was representing the city with my team on a national tournament like 7-8 years ago, and took the MVP award for most kills despite losing in the semis. Im playing it today too, but not as much as earlier.
And yeah, winnig the UCL in Football Manager 2006 with Yeovil after 8 years of coaching it was incredible too.

I quit around 4th or 5th prestige with a KDR of like 1.4. I was a pure rusher too. Used to be a pure quickscoper on MW2. I think I quit around level 60 no prestige with a KDR of barely 0.9. Couldn't stand noob toobers. I had a 1.4 in COD4 when it was still active. Might not just be me but I felt it was the hardest recent COD game to get high KDRs in. The m16 and mp5 were crazy overpowered. I remember everyone I knew who played were chasing that gold cross 10th prestige aha. Only one person I know legitimately got it.

I won a national title with Pitt in NCAA Football 2003 by throwing a pick in the end zone on a hail Mary but I hit sticked the CB with Larry Fitzgerald which caused a fumble that I recovered. Probably the most ridiculous win I've ever had in a game.
Other than that it's probably just a lot of late night Halo 3 games with my buddy. We used to play when drinking was still new for us in HS and we'd always make a drinking game out of multi team games.

GTA: Vice City - all of it.
Diablo 2 LAN sessions with my two main homeboys. Great nights.
Nine awesome years in a World of Warcraft making all manner of new friends and pretty much beating as much as we could with those same two homeboys.

On some ancient version of nba live me and 3 friends had an epic triple OT ASG game for the ages. So many epic buzzer beaters were hit to tie the ends of the game/OT periods. It looked like it was over, down one in the dying seconds of the last ot we stole the ball with Iverson, ran the break, then I pulled up with Vince Carter and nailed a deep 2 pointer to ice the game. Went ballistic.
I struggled so bad with Manus on ds1 when I finally beat him that was pretty awesome. Had no Internet at the time so did the whole game solo noob with no online readme etc. I was sticking my fingers up at him and yelling "**** youuuu" as he died. Massive asshole that guy.
I had tonnes of epic moments on Socom 2 online. Best game ever for me.

Yea I ended up finishing with a 2.0 kd, DatDude was insane though with nearly a 4.0 kd. When we had a full squad it just wasn't fair for the other team.

Amen brother. I did the exact same. Those games owned my soul for years. Sadly I was still playing s2 right up until 2008. Luckily I haven't found anything which can replicate that Socaine addiction. Dresta on these forums was also a big fan, we crushed all who dared stand before us

Best gaming moments of my life have to be during the reign of Halo 1 on the original Xbox. One of my buddy's took a 25 port network hub from school and we set it up at a friend's house.. we'd have 3 or 4 TVs hooked up to it and maybe 8-12 people on a good day. So many fun times LANing in middle school before Xbox Live was a thing.
There was also a LAN center in the next town over so we'd drive there a lot and play other teams in H1. There was a regional tournament held there once where the winner went on to Nationals in New York City. We placed 2nd out of 10 or so teams so we didn't end up winning but man it was such a fun experience.
Then I played the absolute shit out of Halo 3 when it came out. Maybe 20,000+ games over a span of 5 years. 8v8 Big Team Battle was my shit. I was top 10 in the world in BTB experience.

Wow!!!! Me too. I intentionally stay away from those games now because my competitive nature would put me right back in that condition again. And yes S2 was my favorite. M3 shotty baby.
I remember having socom withdrawal issues when they would have their maintenance breaks.

Playing my friend in Madden '04 at another friends house. I had never lost in Madden '04 at the time and I'm down 16-0 going into the 4th quarter. Couldn't get anything going offensively.
4th quarter begins and I'm able to get a score and cut it to 16-7. For some reason I didn't go for two.
Got a stop and marched down again and got another score, this time with a 2 pt. conversion. 16-15. In the last 2 minutes I was able to grab another score (this was like 11 years ago, I don't remember how I scored) to push it to 22-16 and ultimately winning the game. My friend was pissed because he wanted to give me my first loss. Good times.

Probably Counter strike back in the day when I used to play the Zombie mods. I would hide at spawn and then once all the humans turned into zombies I would make a push at the end of the round, reach the final spot for the helicopter and just grenade away the Zombies into the lava(I think it was lava) where they died instantly. It was some Indiana jones type of shit
Oh and I remember in one of the past madden games I killed the clock of the entire first half by just running the ball against some random opponent online. He didn't even get the ball the first haf. I think I only scored on a field goal as well lol

I remember the first time I completed a 1 player video game before my older brother did. Mario 64.
The Left 4 Dead one I put on YouTube :p. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-Mq7QlsFXsU
I just love the challenge it makes gaming so much more exciting.
Do you have steam? L4D2 is still my favorite game atm, have almost 3000 hours there.... not to mention the hours in L4D1... im pretty pro'ish there (Hunter expert), its those 10 vs 10 MP custom/modded servers that keeps me addicted.
Seen this video? Its one of my mates who i helped train in Hunter Training map many years ago, became one of the best Hunters (if not the best) eventually: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtMBw6kJVOQ

Zombies is so fun in cs. Especially with 5-10 people. I'm a below average player on the zombie server I play on occasion but it's still very fun. Some of the maps are so cool. I also love capture the flag/deathmatch servers. CS 1.6 is so diverse in recent years. I've been playing it for 10 years and never have gotten sick of it. Also, I feel the talent level spiked after 2007 when it became less popular. Only the old players stayed for the most part and some of them are ridiculously good when it comes to playing with great strategy along with ridiculous aim and wallbangs.
I also got addicted to Runescape when I still had in the mid 2000s. Had a level 55 with about 1 mil f2p. I wasn't too hardcore, I often just stood around just talking to friends on it. Friend gave me his level 89 that had 50 mil. Eventually just gave it to a random online.

No sadly I play on the Xbox. I havent played lately but Left 4 Dead is the type of game I always go back to, eventually. I used to play a lot of realism expert, and a lot of verses. I was pretty good at versus. The PC experience of the game seemed so much better, but I dont have the kind of PC that can run games smoothly.

Yea its those damn 10+ vs 10+ modded servers on PC that i just cant get bored of! You havent tried L4D2 until you tried those! Each class is modified, like with Charger your charge speed & distance is boosted while also unlocking full control so you can charge around stuff... Smoker has a super long tongue and can move while entangling somebody... Boomer can puke far longer & move faster and has a Kamikaze function... Hunter can jump far longer distance and damage output is fully unlocked so the longer distance you pounce somebody the more damage, to the point where you can kill somebody with a single pounce and there is pounce distance world records to compete for and so on..... 2-3-4 Tanks are spawned at the same time for control..... Jockey your riding speed/control is x 10, so you can like jump on somebody and race him away from the flock and make him go of a building n such.... Spitter goo can incap you instantly.... its hilarious.... on some of the servers you can even be the Witch.... meanwhile survivors have all these crazy buy options & upgrades to combat that.... its just a blast with epic teamwork... GOAT MP game.

Back in the day, I used to focus on Realism Versus. It really levels the playing field. Playing Evolve lately (made by the dudes who made L4D), but I might drop into L4D2 for a bit. Steam handle: biggestmanever
Anyway... you can be a fgt about LeBron sometimes, but if you're a legit L4D2 player, nothing but love. I forgive you for your past transgressions.

Playing Medal of Honor high as fvck and getting through missions. Back then on the PS2 and PS3, I thought those games were bad af but comparing them to Battlefied Hardline on PS4, man it's a whole new world. I can't imagine how these games will look like when my 6 year old boy is a teen.
Also playing Tekken, Fight Night and Soul Calibur with my brothers and cousins. Playing Tomb Raider and Madden Football stoned of course.
