Some years are definitely easier to identify than others, but who would you say for each year?
1980: Kareem
1981: Kareem
1982: ???
1983: Kareem
1984: ???
1985: ???
1986: ???
1987: Magic
1988: Magic
1989: Magic
Anyone disagree with any of the above? Who you guys got for the rest?

How did you come to the conclusion that Kareem was better than Magic in '83?

Kareem was better from 80-82, it was a virtual toss-up in 83, and then it was Magic as the Lakers best player for the rest of the decade.
Although certainly Jabbar and Worthy had their moments at various times in the mid to late 80's, such as Kareem's incredible Game 2 in the 1985 NBA finals when everyone had buried after the infamous Memorial Day Massacre or Worthy's brilliant Game 7 against the Pistons in 1988.

By the 81-82 season Magic was leading the team in rpg, apg, and spg while finising 8th in MVP voting to Kareem's 10th. In the Playoffs he led the team in PER (minus Mike McGee and his 10 minutes played), TS%, WS, WS/48 while not being the leader in USG% and won Finals MVP.
