Adidas didn't really make any mistakes.

MJ was ready to sign with Adidas. He had his mind made up. He had a meeting scheduled with Nike that he was planning on blowing off. His dad literally made him go. He didn't want to be there. At first he was stand-offish, by the end of the meeting he had signed with Nike. If it wasn't for Michaels dad wanting him to be a man of his word, and show up to a meeting he said he'd be at, MJ woulda worn adidas.

Don't know if Michaels shoes or brand would have been as popular as it is today if he'd have signed with adidas. Tinker Hatfield, who designed the Jordans 3-23 really catapulted Mikes brand.

I wonder how different the world would have been if MJ had signed with Adidas?

Would he have hit The Shot over Cleveland wearing some shell tops?

Would he have hit 6 threes vs Portland?

Would he have made Scottie into the player he became?

Would Kobe had initially signed with Nike instead of Adidas?

Would Kobe had gone on to rape that girl in Denver?

Would Lebron had signed with Adidas instead of Nike and win 5/5 and gone on to become the GOAT?

Truly, something to ponder...

Nike was a shit product till they signed Jordan. I think the biggest athlete they had up to that point was like John McEnroe. They really took off when Jordan signed with them.

To be fair, it was like a convergence of all the right things coming together at the right time. MJ was the right athlete, Nike was the right company and Spike Lee was the right pitchman. And they all came together at the right time.

Shit just worked out beautifully.

Nike was a blossoming company. They were already on the up and up. They had Steve Prefontaine as their initial test man. They were already successful

And with great advertising, the help of Michael Jordan, and Tinker Hatfields creative genius it took off. Not to mention Bo Jackson and all he did for Nike.

Def a right place, right time, right people, right advertisement situation
