For me it's currently Jay Electronica. Dude has sick tracks but spits out a song like every 4 years :lol.

I always felt like Pharoah Monch could do much better. Never went complete and total HAM on an album like I thought he was capable of.

You have to be half way decent to be an underachiever.

Chingy goes alongside Murphy Lee, Shawty Low, Jibbs, MiMS and Hurricane Chris.

Thought Kiss could have better, honestly.

Does Brooke Valentine count ? :oldlol:

some of the rappers mentioned just don't have "it", imo. Had their few hits and 5 minutes of game but weren't out of this world. Mase is a good example. he was never that good even if he was on some good tracks. Agreed that a bunch of houston rappers underachieved or are underrated though

How are we defining underachieving? Record sales? Mainstream? Cultural Impact? Or just not fulfilling their potential?

ras kass
elzhi (solo)
crooked i (solo)
az
canibus
blu
inspectah deck (solo)

Very good list, although I'm not that into Blu

Ras released the dopest display of lyricism of all time, and could never even come close to touching it on his next albums (not that they were bad).

If INS dropped a fully RZA backed solo album in 95-96, my goodness.... he did some new shit with CZARFACE which is pretty damn good

Elzhi still has time, he just needs to release one really dope album

AZ, yes

Canibus just never had consistently great beats imo

Deck... easily.

He's had arguably some of the best verses of all time. Is part of the Wu which basically guarantees greatness, hell... it's really hard to f*ck up and not sell if you're part of the Wu at their peak.

Yet he's managed to deliver weak albums, while still making some of the best appearances on other people's projects.

Meanwhile Black Rob has 2 significantly superior albums even tho he's half the rapper :confusedshrug:

Calling Deck and underachiever is like calling Ringo and Tito Jackson underachievers.
