In an nutshell, Common, along with Jon Stewart, come to the conclusion that racism can move towards ending if black people extend a hand in love to white people and white people accept that extended hand. Do you agree? Let

It will end when we accept others shortcoming
And even if that very shortcoming involves the very nature of ones skin color

The problem with this thinking is blacks really dont need to worry about the general approval of white people. First of all be yourself and dont sweat your skin color. If you do wanna help out the people of your common ancestral struggle, then help them out. The days of crippling racism are over. Blacks have equal rights, discrimination has been outlawed, they can live anywhere, there's no reason they need to be seeking out white peoples hands to make a kumbaya circle. There will always be whites who simply refuse to like other races, there will always be whites who insist on making a demonstration of tbheir excessive sensitivity and embracing toward other races, and there will always be whites in the middle who dont care about skin color but dont want black communities to be so shitty because it affects everybody.

But external racism is not remotely as critical to blacks as internal cultural values. Segregation, stereotypes, vulnerable numbers, other groups in history have gone through this and carved out their own way of life just fine. People who want to see the black community improve simply need to help people in the black community improve their own situation. Its not easy. Its not overnight. But campaigns against 'racism ' ie some random nobody saying the n-word on a viral video is an absurd waste of time. Who cares what anyone calle you? Look at what I get called everyday on this board. Do I care? No. Not 1 fukc given. Just do your own thing and dont worry about how people react.

Systemic/institutional racism today is overblown to the point of being a myth.

Black people extend a hand to white people, you won't get followed in a store even when statistically older white women were found to shoplift more.

Black people extend a hand to white people, there won't be unequal pay in doing the same amount of work

Black people extend a hand to white people, you don't have to worry about being passed over for a job for a white person that is less qualified

Black people extend a hand to white people, you will be treated the same in the justice system as your white counterparts for the same crime

Black people extend a hand to white people, your children will be seen as children not as adults

Black people extend a hand to white people, your natural hair will be seen as professional in the workplace

Black people extend a hand to white people, the media bias against black victims of crime will cease

Black people extend a hand to white people, we will acknowledge your mental illnesses instead of deeming you inherently evil or violent

bBack people extend a hand to white people, you will have a fair representation of all black beauty.

Black people extend a hand to white people, school funding and beneficial educational programs will be allotted to more predominantly black schools

Black people extend a hand to white people, the police will stop harassing even without probable cause

Black people extend a hand to white people, predatory home lending will cease on the black population

Black people extend a hand to white people, you will stop being seen as subhuman beasts w/ mythical strengths.

Black people extend a hand to white people, we will stop making fun of your culture and then turn around to appropriating it to make it seem like we're the innovators and oh so cool

Black people extend a hand to white people, you will become the model minority

Black people extend a hand to white people, we will not feign surprise when a black person can afford certain things

Black people extend a hand to white people, we will no longer clench our purses tightly when we're near you.

Black people extend a hand to white people, racism will end.

and the list goes on.......lol :facepalm :facepalm

The problem is, not every white person is racist because they think black people are jerks.

On average, black men's prison sentences are 20% longer than white men's for comparable crimes.

Black people and white people use illegal drugs at similar rates, but black people are far more likely to be arrested for drug use.

African Americans are far more likely to be stopped and searched (although the contraband hit rate is higher among white people) in California.

Those wrongfully convicted and later exonerated by DNA are disproportionately African American.

Black kids are far more likely to be tried as adults and more likely to receive life sentences.

Black former convicts get fewer employer callbacks than white former convicts.

Emily and Brendan are more hirable than Lakisha and Jamal.

High schools with mostly African American and Latino students are less likely to offer courses in Algebra II or Chemistry than high schools with mostly white students.

Increasingly segregated schools have negatively affected African American students

African American students are more than twice as likely to be suspended as white students--even in preschool.

There are racial disparities in U.S. health care.

There are disparities in life expectancy between black and white people in the US.

If a white person posted racial disparities like this, you'd be the first to call him a racist. :oldlol:

The part you should be focusing on is "if white people accept that hand". There are plenty of people who would slap that hand away, that's the issue.

I think black people should stop referring to themselves as ''the black community.'' When you do that, you are turning a bunch of individuals into a group. And then the ghetto culture becomes ''black people.'' The many black criminals become ''black people.'' After all, you are the ''black community,'' right?

For instance, you can only do this with black people: ''As a black person, I believe X.'' You cannot make that sort of statement about any other group. Just try it.

As an Asian person, I believe X.
As a British person, I believe X.

This is only common with black people, because they are prone to turning themselves into one homogenous group. ''As black people, we need to stand up for what's right.'' ''As black people, we shouldn't take this anymore.'' ''As a black man, I disagree.'' ''As a black woman, I disagree.''

I understand that black people might have similar experiences with racism, so ''as a black woman'' becomes a sensible statement. But I think putting yourselves constantly into that box will only feed racism. Because then others start lumping you together, and all the bad areas of black culture become representative of everybody.

As a white person (heh), I know I have my own thoughts of racism. Actually, ''as a human being'' might be a better phrase. We all do to some extent. The only ones who don't are kids, because they haven't been socialized yet to judge other people based on their skin color. Frankly (and proven factually), racism is ingrained in human DNA. We are prone to make snap judgments of people based on easy-to-see traits, including skin color. That trait helped us survive and get to this point as a species. So, we should realize that racism is not just a small-scale issue. It is an issue of our humanity vs our primal nature. It is not something that is easily cured. And when I look around at all the changes that have been made, socially, in the last 50 years.. I think our humanity is definitely winning.

Racism is pretty stupid if you think about it. We are all almost exactly the same, genetically. Our differences are VERY MINOR, like black Americans tending to have bigger (noses) and Asians tending to be short. Genetically, it is nothing. If you were to look at the genetic code of two different colored people, you couldn't tell the difference. So all of this is social and cultural.

The only real genetic aspect is the tendency of people to judge others based on exterior traits. If a bunch of Northern vikings attacked your village one time, your brain will remember some distinctive, exterior features of those vikings. And then, you will tend to judge other people with those features as aggressive. It makes sense biologically, but it can also cause problems like modern day stereotyping. I think this is a big reason why black people need to stop referring to themselves as a group, or a community. Stop putting every single one of you in a box, because then the violent, ghetto black people become synonymous with everyone. Imagine if all white people were synonymous with redneck meth cooks, trailer trash, white rapists or serial killers? People need to treat themselves as individuals, and then hopefully over time the world will do the same.

Most racists don't care about genetics...it's about the different cultures we come from
