Last week it was Curt Schilling and today it is Ashley Judd. Its kind of funny watching these older celebrities lose their shit as they discover that there are mean people on twitter. Its like these idiots have never been on the internet before, just wait until they discover the horror of youtube comments.

I guarantee men receive the same amount of sexual comments but they can brush off go suck a bag of ***** a lot easier. Also, is it worse to receive to comment expressing that someone wants to rape you? Or a comment about raping a loved one? Not picking a side I am actually curious.

I wonder why Twitter opted to allow anything and everything...nothing is off limits on Twitter, there are accounts on Twitter that function as porn sites.
Other social media doesn't allow for that...Facebook and Instagram will delete your profile and ban you from the site.
Twitter is like the ISH of social media...

Another case of the celebtocracy using the police as their personal protectors, to save them from hurt feelings. It's not so bad in the US, but in the UK, say anything mean to a celeb on twitter and the police will be round to shut you up and land an easy prosecution. Any online material deemed to be 'grossly offensive' is illegal in the UK, and of course that leaves pretty much unlimited scope for prosecution.

Yeah i looked through the tweets and i didnt see a single specific threat, just a bunch of people telling her that she is a stupid **** or that she should go suck a dick.
Someone needs to tell this **** that you cant press charges against someone for calling you a ****.
No, but you if you've got resources like her or Schilling, you can publicly out people to their employers/schools and then use your celebrity platform to ask their employers/schools if they really want to be associated with someone who says these types of things.
That kind of stuff will ruin a person's life once it gets some traction. I'd bet 99% of internet users who pose comments or on message boards say things they wouldn't say out in public. As long as you have resources and a social platform like most celebrities, it's ridiculously easy to ruin someone's life if all you had their twitter account and all you had to do was find one spec of controversial or inappropriate comment.

I hope she has success here...yeah maybe she is a big cry baby but fck people that hide behind their computer screens...seriously
If someone walked up to her in real life and threatened her with sodomy-rape they would subject to arrest...why should it be any different online? Just because it is so prevalent we should just accept it?
Rarely ever does severe trolling get punished...it needs to happen more

I am assuming the worst tweets were posted, so she really wasn't threatened with anything. Just a bunch of people calling her a b!tch and a whore. She's a public figure opening herself up to a public forum. This is different from Shilling were he was sticking up for his non-celebrity daughter being cyber stalked. Police should tell her get some thick skin or get off Twitter.

the thing is, im not sure that anybody actually threatened her. if someone can find me a specific threat against judd I would love to see it, because all I can find is people saying things like -
what the hell do you even do you stuck up ****. What are you famous for again.
Go suck on Cal’s two inch dick ye Bitch whore
also, there is a legal term "credible threat (http://www.avvo.com/legal-answers/when-does-a-threat-qualify-as-a-credible-threat--637699.html)" which explains why we treat internet threats differently from real life ones.
look at how the law defines what a threat is. Other factors, such as the background between the person making the threat and person making the threat and circumstances under which the alleged threat was made, are factors to look at when determining the subjective intent of the person making the alleged threat.

she claims she was threatened with sodomy :confusedshrug:
Look, she is showing how naive she is when it comes to the internet, and I don't think threats over Twitter should be taken as seriously as threats face-to-face. The thing is I just don't feel the slightest bit of sympathy for retarded trolls that do this kind of stuff and it would be awesome if some of them were actually punished in some way. So I hope Judd has some success here.
Reading YouTube and Twitter comments sometimes makes me question humanity...like is this how people really think and we just hide it in real life? The amount of negativity out there is jarring but I just always just remind myself that the vast majority of it comes from jobless-womanless teenage males that have nothing better to do but harass people on the internet all day.

I have zero sympathy for anonymous shit talkers but I'm not sure what she's going to sue over if they're just calling her names. It would be fair game to publicly expose anyone she could but there's no law against insults.

She can't "sue" but Curt Schilling had success with this...IIRC someone lost their job and others were expelled from their college.

If someone is making real threats against her sure report it and track them down and find out if it's credible, if it's just the people insulting her then I don't think there's any point.

Do like Schilling did and publically out them. Consequences were paid when dudes decided to troll Schill with remarks of shoving Louisville Sluggers up his daughter's cooch...and I say good.
I mean...Report the legitimate threats for sure. But after that...pressing charges for what? They're not going to prison for being meanies are they? No. And its not like suing a bunch of people barely able to afford their cell phone bills will net her any meaningful cash. So make them pay by outting their asses publically. Let their families see what they do on Twitter. Let their mothers and fathers and sons and daughters see and learn that you're not as anonymous and tough as you pretend to be.

This all started when she tweeted that Arkansas was using dirty tactics on the court. Maybe the university should sue her for slander.

and it's because investors don't see long term reward in twitter so there aren't as many stakes in it, which is why twitter doesn't give a f*ck about censorship.

are you as passively aggressive racist in real life? i doubt it. we're all different on the net. the internet is just another venue in which we behave according to our audience and peers. asking why people are assholes on the internet and not irl is like asking why guys don't drink beers and argue about sports at work.

Nah... I'm the same in life. I learned how to shut my mouth (online, too, really), but I think people with an online persona have issues. Sure, when you are a kid that's one thing, but adults online taking out their aggression on people or telling anyone, whether it's a celeb or just a normal person, anything sexual... is ****ed up.
I agree that people should get fined. It'd be hard to get everyone for everything, but if they started getting some people, they could calm shit down. If it's a kid, show their parents. They could even make a website that shows repeat offenders so that people would know what scumbags they are.
I just want people to own up to this shit in real life. "Trolling" online is out of control. While I can admit it makes me laugh sometimes (because it's so ridic) it still needs to go.
The only thing is I also believe these people need to get off of social media. I mean, if someone called you and told you to suck a fat dick or get raped bitch, then you could probably really get them in trouble. It's a bit different since these people have their 'shrines', so it's more like going and defacing someone's shrine than an attack on them. at least, that's how I look at it.
It's still wack though.
Good for the ones of us who grew up in the chat room era and know what's up.

the point is that no one should be seriously offended by black letters on a screen. they aren't real. people on here call each other f@ggots and say all kinds of terrible shit and no one cares.
i can understand if someone is annoying, like spamming or some shit so you block them. but i would never raise a kid to be so f*cking soft that shit said by people they don't know or will never meet psychologically f*cks with them.
