i like the Book of Job where God destroys a man's life because of a bet with Satan
to me that's the true Christian spirit
it doesn't say that your suffering has a divine, deep meaning that you just can't understand, no, it's just randomness, just for the heck of it

Its funny how you guys that dont believe in God and are big on live and let live and being respectful of your fellow man, constantly make threads mocking another mans belief. Why?

What are you talking about? As long as God is involved, then suffering has a divine meaning to it. It is only when God is removed that suffering immediately becomes anathema, because it is now seen to be 'meaningless' or 'pointless' - the Sisyphean struggle is the one that brings the greatest despair. It is not suffering per se that we as humans hate, but the notion of pointless and meaningless suffering that causes us to despair. For you just to live, an untold chain of unimaginable suffering was necessary. If the Universe is seen as one (which, scientifically, it must be), then no single event could take place without every other sequence of events following as they must. To deny even a single instance of human suffering is to deny the whole, to deny existence, to deny yourself and the value of your life.
But the fact is it isn't meaningless. It's a central driving and motivating force for all advanced lifeforms. Life without suffering would be meaningless.
As for a Bible passage, how about:
‘Finally, brethren; whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things’
For it is something non-believers can value also.
edit: I'd also advise anyone who hasn't to read the King James Bible, as it is very much a foundation stone of a lot of our civilisation, and a book of real beauty, poetry and insight.
Slandering Christianity without having read this is quite simply childish, especially when one lives and has grown up in a culture heavily grounded in Christian mores. Not to mention how your criticisms will look childish compared to the critics who knew the thing back-to-front (as all the good ones did).

They are not all liked. But even if they are, doesn't mean I think they should be.
Abraham is the most disgusting character in all of fiction.
