I was sifting through some of my old basketball cards and came across this little gem....

He was 4th in rebounding that year with over 1400 boards?? What gives?

Is overall shooting percentage better from 40-50 years ago?

Played at a faster pace. More shots were taken and there were more rebounds to be gotten.

The same reason fg% was lower, and pts and assists, etc were higher.

Wilt, oscar, etc played in an inflated as well as weak era

TRB is about the same because even though the pace is slower, there are more missed shots due to more 3's attempted. This holds true up til around 78'.

Because there are more 3's attempted, there are more long rebounds, which means less rebounds for the bigs and more rebounds for guards.

Wilt and Oscar's stats are still impressive even if you lower them to modern day pace.

Yeah, that's why you would never see this 6-7 3/4" 235 lb physical marvel leading the league a few years ago, and in only 36 mpg. Nor would he be capable of averaging 26 ppg and 12 rpg just a year ago.

Nope, those guys only played in the 50's...

And that's just 1400 boards. Wilt was in another stratosphere in 60-61.
