View Full Version : Westbrook should be the obvious choice for MVP this season

OKC would likely be a below .500 or even below .400 team without him.

The only other guy's who should even be in the conversation are Harden, Lebron, and maybe Steph Curry.

He hasn't been doing it for as long as Harden has.

Lol @ LeBron in the mix.

It has to be either Curry, Westbrook, or Harden. Nobody else.

Unfortunately it has to translate to a certain amount of wins, preferably best record or one of the best records in the NBA... thats the way MVP criteria works... you could be averaging 50-10-10-10-10 if you want, still wont get MVP if you are like 8th seed or worse in your conference...

James Harden.
This. Houston would not have a playoff spot without Harden. They've been missing Dwight for a ton of games too.

The fact that they are the 3rd seed blows my mind.

if you want to consider westbrook, why not davis? He has a similar record, and worse teammates, and has played more games think

harden is the mvp imo though.

Based on what has already been established, Westbrook has no shot.

Only difference I see between Harden and Westbrooks situations... is that Harden has the Rockets in the #3 seed.

Harden getting all the shit for Rockets only being a #3 seed, 4th best record in the league.

What about Westbrook? Fighting for that 8th seed still.

Double standards much? Don't even get me started on the FT complaints. Brodie shoots just as many FT as Harden.

Harden got the Rockets at the third seed

I wish everyone would quit saying that. Harden and Houston are better off without him.

I think Harden is the MVP as well, but don't use that as reasoning for it.

They are not better without him, and their record isn't better without him. They have kept their record good because Harden's been playing his ass off, and role players step up.

You're not going to be "better" without a 16 pt double double machine who defends well.

The voters are literally brain dead for thinking that team record should have anything to do with who is the MVP.

The MVP should go to the player who has the best season.

Russell Westbrook is hands down having the best season of any NBA player this year.

Harden is the only one who comes close.

Davis and LeBron are also having better seasons than Curry. Curry is just the best player on the best team. He is not having the best season.

remember back in 2006 when a guy was averaging 35/5/5, scoring 80+ in a single game, outscoring a team by himself. averaging 40 for a month multiple times.. dragging kwame/smush to the playoffs

he didnt win mvp cause he only had a 7th seed

right now westbrook has the 8th seed

now i agree he is the real mvp. but its too late to fix the mvp criteria

just keep it as is... a regular season record award

currys mvp

MVP criteria was legit from 2000-2013

MJ was obvious in 1989, 1990, and 1997.
Kobe was obvious in 2006.

Harden is MVP. He does more for his team than Curry, without as talented of a roster for support. And he's led his teams to more wins than Westbrook, even though Russell is a better defender. Not by leaps and bounds, however.

This is all coming from someone who is meh as a whole on all those players, and isn't in love with any of them. All have their faults, and glaring weaknesses. I don't see picking anyone of them MVP as blasphemous. But IMO Harden fits the best of the criteria.

- Best Player
- Most Valuable
- Record

It all doesn't matter anyway because LeBron is still clearly the best actual player in the league. With AD right behind him.

Those other 3x (Beard, Brick, and Curry) round out the bottom half of the top five this year. With Chris Paul, and Kyrie Irving turning it on lately nipping at their heels.
