View Full Version : Knicks positioned to be the next big thing?

After this year, we will shed $50 million and be at $32 million. Not to mention the NBA cap might go to $90 million. Having almost $60 million WITH a top 4 lottery pick *very good chance at having #1 , things could get VERY VERY interesting in the big,bad city.

The Knicks could decide to trade away the lottery pick (only after drafting a player) and getting a Durant or Westbrook. Heck, if things go sour in Cleveland, maybe even a Kyrie Irving, not to mention all that cap space.

If Knicks dont win a championship in the next 4 years, I will be stunned. The more I think about it, the harder I get; plus there is clear stuff coming out of me.

And dont think for a minute, lebron isnt keeping track of the Knicks situation. If somehow we get Durant, he would LOVE to play with his buddy. Imagine Lebron/Durant/Melo/Gasol? YIKES-YIKES-YIKES!

For good measure, we might bring big-fella Patrick Ewing= THE HOYA DESTROYA as an assistant coach and let him enjoy a 'chip as well.

Things are about to get real fun in NYC.

The cap won't explode until summer 2016. The highest projection I've seen for this summer is $67.5M. When you account for empty roster charges and cap holds, Knicks will have less than $30M in cap space, barring using stretch provision or trading somebody.

This summer will give you guys the most flexibility that you've had since 2010, but remember that other squads will be big FA players this summer and next. Others teams are hoarding some cap space.

Usually I'd bookmark something like this to bump two years down the road.

Don't even care here... Knicks suck. The end.

I'll believe it when I see it. Knicks have just replaced Clippers as the joke of the league.

It's always wait another year. 6 months ago it was a lock to get gasol and another max player. Now it's wait till 2016.

The draft pick is going to be huge. But there is no 2 max players. This years free agency will likely be re signing bargnani, shved, and then maybe getting to pay kris Middleton 15 mill per year or enes Kanter a max deal.

well knicks migh be able to have a strong first unit....but what about the bench? cant imagine that knicks will rock next season. they will def. reach playoffs, but for a deep run you need a better bench. building a bench wll cost time.

When was the last time the Knicks had a truly good team? Patrick Ewing and John Starks?

Same thing Yall said in 2003

"Bron endorsements quadruple he wants to be a billionaire NY is the no brainer. Anyone arguing otherwise doesn't understand economics!"

End up with amare for $100mil and more irrelevance

Phil Jackson doesn't even know what he's Lookin at scouting prospects. Better off trading picks for established players

Every other team in the Tri-state area passing them in championship potential basically making them the laughing stock here in the area. The good thing is they can only go up. Bless us Knick fans with a great draft pick, please! The good thing about it is that there is no 1 player that sounds out, means there is less pressure to win the #1 pick. 1-2-3 should all get you good players with great potential.

Can't believe they have to build around Melo :facepalm

I'm jealous of what the Cavs have with James and Irving. I wish the Cs had Westbrook or KD. Anthony Davis? Man, it would be great to have him here.

Cap space and a good lottery spot?

I would like to see the Cs with a better shot at winning the lottery but I don't particularly envy that. You are basically bragging about how much the Knicks suck.

OK - I love the mess - age of hope here. CANNOT trade picks.

Tanking is something we've never done. We get Okafor or Towns, we're on our way. I don't see a big free agent class of '15 - rather sign a handful of solid, serviceable players and hold the loot for '16. We NEED a good PG badly. I don't think Dragic will leave Miami, but I wouldn't oppose it.

The thing for me is this: will Jax's brilliance convey on the VP tip? He took a big gamble here. Hopefully, NY will stop being such a joke by this time next season.

I think you may get a post-prime LeBron. He had shown an interest in playing in NY.

The Knicks have:
Melo
A lotto pick
Cap space (which 2/3 of the league will have)

I would bet heavily against a championship in the next 4 years. Maybe if Towns (or Okafor) is the second coming of Tim Duncan (5-10% chance), the Knicks have a high enough pick to get him (~40% chance), Melo continues to be elite for 4 years (80% chance), Pjax puts great role players around them (50% chance), and they get the luck that EVERY championship team MUST get in the playoffs (30%) chance...then they can win a chip. Factor in the possibility of the Knicks signing an elite free agent, and MAYBE they have a 1% chance at winning a title in the next 4 years.

Knicks, like the Lakers, have pretty much no young talent.

Quite different from the Sixers and especially the Wolves (who are loaded).

That being said, our future (and Knicks) depends on who he draft now, if it's a bust, then it sets us back significantly, more than the Wolves, who already have their core ready to go, and the Sixers that have a great frontcourt and a million picks.
