View Full Version : Is Lebron the most scrutinized player of all time?

He went from being the most liked to the most hated, and now back to the most liked
I doubt you can find many athletes in any sport that have been on both ends of the spectrum like Lebron has...
From as soon as he made the decision he instantaneously became the villain, and he sure didn't help it... The Big three introduction party and his not 1, not 2... hyperbole... The early season turmoils of the first season, and the peak of the hate when he lost in the finals in such controversial fashion..
The redemption of the next season and the season after that... to now where he has returned home and seemingly the NBA's number 1 guy again
I think that MJ will always be the greatest of all time... But Lebron might go down as the most controversial of all time, the most influential of all time. The boy prodigy with a destiny so great it was impossible to live up to the hype, even though he has had nothing but success.

Kobe is probably the only one who comes close, with the rape charges, the feud with Shaq, etc

But Lebron might go down as the most controversial of all time
There's nothing controversial about LeBron. A lot of people view him a joke, a punchline. Dennis Rodman, Allen Iverson, Ron Artest (Metta World Peace), Kermit Washington, those are players that are considered controversial. Even Kobe is far more controversial. What scandals besides him running away from teams when things get tough has he experienced.
the most influential of all time.

In 20 years people will be talking about leBRONZE joining wade just to win a championship etc...
LeBron fan logic
2008: LeBron deserves MVP over Kobe because he has better stats. Kobe has superior teammates which give him a better record. Kobe might win titles, but that doesn't make him MVP. muh PER
2015: LeBron deserves MVP because he is the leader of a better team than Harden. Harden's better stats are only better because he doesn't have to share the ball. Harden will lost in t he 1st/second round, LeBron cares about winning titles not stats. fu PER

How did it get tough for him in Miami?
Unless you mean it got tough for him to accept taking another pay cut after completely carrying the team for the last 3yrs.

When the Spurs put a Historic ass whooping on them? :confusedshrug:
Bron could see the writing on the wall- Wade was close to being done, always injured, Ray was on his way out, etc. Making it through a Historically bad Eastern Conference was one thing, but playing an actual team... obviously it wasn't going to cut it any more. He just traded up a roster of older, oft-injured all stars for a roster of young all stars.

Rodman and the whole Bad Boy era Pistons were controversial on the court. Same with Karl Malone. What besides flopping does LeBron do on a basketball court that's controversial?

Everything Lebron does on the court is controversial. That's the point. He passes a game winner, he gets destroyed for it. He takes a game winner, he gets destroyed for it. He's too passive, he gets destroyed for it. He hogs the ball, he gets destroyed for it. He bricks his jumpers, he gets destroyed for it.
Everything he does is big news. Anything he does is big news. He drops 28/6/8 on record percentages in the 2014 finals; he gets wrecked for it.

So in other words, he was expected to continue to take a pay cut while carrying the team like had the last 3 seasons. It was great for him not knowing if Wade was going to be able to play from game to game while basically making the same money?
Dude toughed it out for 7 years in Cleveland. Knowing that it was a good chance that the (for example) 08 opening day starting 5 was going to be different than the 07's. The 07's opening day starters were going to be different than the 06's etc...etc... nothing but a constant carousel of players in and out every year. Yet never heard him call players out and never cried to be traded.

Yeah, 'controversial' is not the word you're looking for. Stick to scrutinized, that works much better.

However you want to square away in your mind LeBron James running away from a team whenever the going got tough is your business. Doesn't change what he's done repeatedly... and what he might do yet again if the Cavs get embarrassed '14 Heat style in the near future.

How the hell does a stan justify his "decision" tv special.
It's not about justifying the things he does. That would depends on the point of view. If you were in Lebron's shoes, the decision he made was the best choice of action for his continued success. The execution of this action however was questionable, perhaps hurt his brand substantially, but on the other hand, it made him talked about even more, any publicity is good publicity some say...

He might be. I don't really know many casual basketball fans, so I can't say who they like or dislike. Pretty sure they don't care about collusion and all that nonsense though.

The question then is
Is most liked synonymous with most popular?
I would like to think so
I mean even Lebron was definitely up there with the most popular during the time he was seen as the villain... He always has been anyways

Lebron did not even inform his own organization before he left. They found out the same time America found out. That's ridiculously unprofessional. He deserved all the ridicule he got that year and then some. His brand might not have took a beating but his home town did.

LeBron deserves all the criticism he gets bc he gave himself the King moniker in high school. If you're the king, prove it.

Yes, obviously he welcomed it, called himself the King... Heck he was a poor teenager about to become the biggest thing in basketball on the planet. The expectations were written in stone before senior prom... Tell me, how many other basketball players have been in this situation... the expectations of millions... Maybe Moses Malone or Wilt? Not many

But like I said, however you square away LeBron's opportunistic cowardice in your mind is your business. I really hope the Cavs get stomped out in the playoffs so I can hear the next round of excuses for the Decision 3.0
