defenses got too sophisticated

athletes got better

pace

youtube means more sophisticated scouting reports to expose holes in his game vs his weaker 81 game era

at his peak puts up maybe a 60 point game tops in todays league

you figure he a smaller weaker lebron an the best lebron did in a modern game was 60 thats wat kobe could get at bess but with less rebounds an assists an lower efficiency

We are talking about the guy with the most missed shots ever... if you chuck at a ridiculous rate every game you're going to get hot occasionally. I am surprised he didn't have more 70 plus scoring games.

That youtube scouting bit had me giggled but calling Kobe mini-Lebron isn't even funny. They are like the exact opposites.

if Melo and Bran can drop 60+ in this era, Kobe can easily drop 80...

I do agree that NBA coaches also had to adapt to new modifications to the rules, but a bad team now is still as bad as the Raptors then.

Op's right , he'd score 91 for sure.

Even the most degenerate Kobe hater , like John Hollinger respects the 81 pt game and considers it a better feat than Wilt's 100 pt performance.

it's not like he dropped 62 in 3 quarters against a 60-win Mavs team, who had the 11th best DRTG and were 7th in ppg allowed and one of the slowest teams in the league in terms of pace

While kobe's 81 doesn't hold a candle to Drob's 71, Kobe would probably score 90 at least one time if he was the same age playing in today's soft era.

this is a joke, right? their plan was to let him score as much as possible...kobe dropped 55 in one half to turn a blowout loss into a blowout win.

I don't get why people assume he'd automatically score more. Todays era remains strong, as was the era back then. Just depends on who's guarding him. A current LeBald calibre defender? I see 100+.

03-23-2015, 05:10 PM
That was only 9 years ago, you're acting like it happened several decades ago. I don't know if he would if 06 Kobe was put in today's league but that's just because the situation would have to be perfect. He would def be capable if he wanted to and took enough shots. So could he? Sure, would he? Idk.

Oh I know. Players are much taller, bigger, stronger, faster, more athletic, and more skilled than those from 10 years ago.

Can you imagine a prime Shaq trying to make the NBA today? He would be bullied right out of the league.

The 100 meter record was set in 2009. What has happened since? Have sprintrs become slower since then?

In 1991 the record for the long jump was 29'-4". Today that is still the record.

The previous record was 29'2" which was established in 1968.

I guess long jumpers have regressed.

the 100 meter record was set in 2009. Have sprinters slowed down since then?

I guess the best sprinters ran in 2009. Today's sprinters are far inferior.

The kid shot 48% from the field last year, including 28% from the high-school 3 pt line. He weighs about 210 lbs too. He might be another Manute Bol, if that.

I would EASILY take a prime KG or Dirk any day of the week over this guy.

haha this.

Same thing I was thinking, the f*ckin irony.

Back on topic, prime Kobe would be dropping 40 points on a regular basis today. if he gets into that zone again he'd be able to drop 81 again (granted it was a once in a lifetime game).

Kobe is superior than Harden and hands down still the best offensive scorer today even sitting down recovering. If he comes back next season, Mamba has a legit chance of dropping a few 40 point games.

Prime mid 00s Kobe would destroy the league right now..
