Leonard for me personally, He is an elite defender and all round pest. Hes a frikking FMVP for crying out loud. Westbrooks type of game doesn't translate well to playoffs. You simply just cannot sustain his playstyle for that period of time, also its very likely he will have off nights with a horrendous amount of turnovers. Its just not something you want to hedge ur franchise on.
Go with a cheaper pass first less hyped PG, and spend more money on the more important positions aka big men and tall scorers/defenders because the midgets can only do so much.

Fmvp transpated to being the best player on his team for 6 games. Russell has been playing at this level for 2 months now. Yes he will have off nights just as anyone else in the league.

Gotta go with Westbrook because that mentality may be something instinctual and unattainable.

I am as big a Leonard fan as just about any Spurs fan and oh how I hate Westbrook with a passion...
I can see this from two angles. 1) who is going to get you the most wins or will a team to victory. 2) who will fit better in the overall scope of the team.
Russell Westbrook gives you a chance to win every single night. he can take over a game and get you a win. Leonard cannot do that right now. he has been given opportunities for stretches in quarters but not full games. he just doesnt have the offensive firepower like westbrook to put the team on his back.
Leonard on the other hand is a coach's dream. he does what he is asks and he busts his butt. he doesnt talk back, he doesnt question, he plays his role to best of his abilities. he plays within himself and doesnt try to do too much which has been westbrooks problem when he goes hero mode.
so to answer the question, if i had a solid organization with a competent GM and coach i would go Leonard. if i had a lottery team who needs regular season wins and a marketable player to put people in seats i would go westbrook.

Irrelevant. He hasn't played effective basketball in 11 months. Dwight looked like a fcking shell every time he stepped on the court this season.
Tim Duncan is a 2x MVP, 3x FMVP, 15x All-Star, 14x All-Defensive Team player, career averaging 20-10 player. Doesn't mean I'd take him over Westbrook.

Could Kawhi carry the Thunder to the playoffs without Ibaka and Duirant?
Simple answer,no.....he isn't a elite scorer,passer like Westbrook(1st in scoring,4th in assists)
Kawhi's just a good defender...and that's all he'll ever be

If I needed a third option and had something like Love and Harden already, I would go with Leonard though.

Leonard has never in his career been a #1 option for an NBA season, he's currently part of a brilliant system that maximizes all his strengths, we have yet to see how he would fare in a leader role on a team that's built around him, and not in a system that he's just a part of.
That being said, you can't put him above guys that are/have been proven leaders on Playoff teams and who are putting up star/superstar numbers.
He has a Finals MVP, but he he was barely the best performer on his team with everyone going off in a one-sided series, and it's not like he locked Lebron down, who probably had his most efficient Finals of his career.
So yeah, he's not a top 15 player in this league. For all we know, he'd be rather average on a medicore squad without GOAT-level coaching. And it's not like his numbers are impressive.
He's averaging 16/7 with 2.3 steals per game. His defense is elite no doubt, but his shooting % has dipped by 6% as his shot attempts have gone up by 3 per game compared to last season.
He's like top 20, but you're kidding yourself if you're putting him in the top 15.

He's like top 20, but you're kidding yourself if you're putting him in the top 15.
Last 10 games he's putting up 20/7 and 3 steals on 54% FG, all while being the best perimeter defender in the league. Also leading the league in steals. I don't think you understand how much of an impact that has on the game. Did you see how bad the Spurs were without him this season? They were falling out of playoff contention, now that he's healthy they are battling for the 3rd/4th seeds. He's 5th in RPM only behind Harden, Curry, Lebron and Davis. Just because he doesn't iso and hold the ball until the clock runs down every play doesn't mean he isn't good.
Spurs... MP Off. Rtg. Rank Def. Rtg. Rank Net Rtg. Rank
With Leonard 799 107.8 5 94.5 1 13.3 2
Without Leonard 1310 102.6 17 103.0 13 -0.4 15
Spurs offense ranks 17th without him, 5th with him. Defense ranks 13th without him, and 1st with him. And that's a huge sample size. You can't deny impact.

It's the Ron Artest conundrum. Every year there's at least one defensive wing whose actual impact on the game is at a superstar level, but because they don't have the dominating offensive game to fill up the box score they don't get widespread recognition.
Easier to find an elite scorer than it is to find a wing-defender of Kawhi's level.
