Was developed pretty spontaneously.

Give 2 pts to FMVP, 1.5 pts to 2nd options or significant 3rd options on championship teams, 1 pt to contributing role/role players on championship teams. 2 pts to regular season MVPs. 1 pt to DPOY.

How does the GOAT list look? Where do significant players of the last 30 or so years land?

incredibly narrow criteria

Joel Anthony>Cp3 by your criteria.

Obviously this is meant for evaluating players of similar class, not something like horry vs pau gasol

I like this, can someone do the conventional top 11 list, graded with this metric?

Edit: here is the list. Bill Russell obviously played in a different era with 8 total teams, so we cant judge his career accurately according to this. Outside of that, it seems very reasonable, with maybe kobe and lebron a bit too high, and shaq too low.

0. Russell - 32 (assuming he was the winner of all the FMVPs)
1. Jordan - 23
2. Kareem - 22
3. Magic - 15
4. Duncan - 13
5. Lebron - 12
6. Bird - 11.5
6. Wilt - 11.5
8. Kobe - 10.5
9. Shaq - 9.5
10. Hakeem - 8

You gotta add pts for scoring titles, all star MVPs, top 5 in total scoring all time, etc, etc

I'm not fully sure I would count 3/3/1 as a contributing role. I'd give him a 0.

And this evaluates career achievements, not talent of the players. Either way, I am aware it is a narrow criteria. I just think it is interesting to see where people land in this criteria and how close it is to truth. Like I said, the criteria was really just made on the spot. Not like I thought in depth about it.

I would give 3 points for top 5 player in the league winning a ring. 2 points for a top 10 player and 1 point for top 20. MVP's can be 2-3 points each..

Too convoluted for a simple idea.

Would "Top 5" be determined by regular season MVP votes in that scenario?
