The moment doesn't exist in photo or film, but surely it does exist.
Mr. Texas Winter on Nov. 26, 1966, recounted the amazing display the day after it occurred, on a deep lake in Baltimore by Chamberlain's estate. "Wilt was a betting man," Tex recalled. "He wasn't afraid of losing and was willing to do anything that he truly he put his mind to. We were just sitting around the lake joking around and telling silly stories like the time Wilt touched the top of the backboard and when he ran so quickly that the ground under him had been nearly crushed. "
Chamberlain, 2x NBA Champion and very esteemed hall-of-famer, was a man of many tales. He claimed to have fought and beaten a mountain lion as well as sleep with over 20,000 women. "I jokingly bet him two nickels that he couldn't walk across the lake before us. Wilt kind of looked at me sideways with an empowered look on his face and took the bet.
"We took a boat out to the lake. I was amused that we were going through with the whole ordeal, but Wilt insisted. Once we had gotten to the middle of the lake Wilt leaped 49 inches out of the boat and landed perfectly, right onto the water. I looked at him, eyes-widened, and he just reached out his hand and says, "You of little faith, why did you doubt." And that is the story of how I saw Wilt walk on water."
Wilt is amazing.
