They both suck. Haven't put up a single point in the NBA, let alone played a second.

Duncan's defense tips the scale heavily in his favor.

He wants us to say Dirk because rings ain't involved. But I still say Duncan, his defense was crucial to his Team no matter what Era he played in. Even back in the day Avery used to have to hide Dirk on D.

Dirk may be the more rounded offensive player, but Tim has the edge even if you take away rings.

here are their career averages

dirk
22.3 pts / 47.5% /8 reb / 2.6 ast /.9 stl /.9 blk
duncan
19.6 pts /50.6% / 11 reb / 3.1 assists/ .7 stl /2.2 blk
......................................^ thats shocking.

Duncan and it isn't even close
Nowitzki may be marginally better in offence....Duncan is miles better in defence, leadership etc.

Now statistics aside,

For first half of his career Duncan carried the team on his back and won them championships..

While,Cuban spent exorbitant sums on role players around Dirk yet he could win only 1 championship.

Spurs had a record of 20-62 the season before Duncan arrived.

Nowitzki had frikin Steve Nash. 2x MVP,perrenial all-star Jason kidd and DPOY Tyson Chandler

interesting, i always thought duncan had the better assortment of teammates than dirk had, or maybe dirk has underachieved with his teammates and it only looks as so.

Steve Nash was a late bloomer bro, he didn't became an all star until 2002 or 2003. D-Rob was an all star years before Duncan came to the league, plus Elliott was also a problem too. I think that 96-97 was messed up anyway because the spurs had key injuries anyway.

Jason kidd was old and dried up when he played for the mavs and chandler, come on man.:facepalm

Duncan. He has the longevity, prime and peak.

Comparing their raw Regular Season stats is pretty inane, tbh. Neither of them ever cared about their numbers, and pace is always a factor with Duncan (he played on some horrendously slow teams in his prime).

Per 100 Possession Playoff stats:

Duncan: 31/17/5/1/4
Dirk: 33/13/3/1/1

Dirk was the better offensive weapon, but I think prime Duncan was easier to build around (nothing against Dirk, but a traditional ow-post big man is the most valuable asset in the sport). And defensively it's not even close.

That said, Dirk is a very underrated Playoff performer. He may not have the team success (and he had his fair share of chokes, same with everyone), but he had a tremendous impact even without being a good defensive player.
