would they have been right to pick Hakeem over MJ, given what we know now? They had drafted Clyde Drexler the year before.
You take Drexler/Hakeem over MJ/Drexler.

Hakeem would have shattered his legs somehow and would now be one of the many busts in Portland history.

Does anyone knock on Houston for taking Hakeem? I don't think I've ever seen it and I certainly don't blame them. Not the GOAT, but an instant impact, franchise changing, HOFer, who took them to the Finals in his third year (?) and then eventually won two rings. Sounds good to me.

Chicago would have taken Akeem (Hakeem didn't exist yet) with the number 1 pick.

Given what we know now, picking anyone over MJ is always wrong. Forget the skills, the financial implications alone makes it wrong.

Isn't that partly a matter of MJ coming along at just the right time? Bird and Magic would have similar financial success in Jordan's place, right?

Hakeem and his best buddy Drexler would have won many rings
