View Full Version : A colleague of mine passed away....

Just a couple of hours ago. He was a doctor who worked in our home office doing clinical research for our brand.
What was eerie is that this morning we did a company conference and he announce he was leaving the company to go back to work in a clinic. We all wished him good luck. A couple of hours later he was found hunched over in his chair gasping for air. Our owner did mouth to mouth to try and resuscitate him. He went into a comma. Ambulance came and got him. I just got the call from another colleague he died.
The man was only 42, healthy and lean, and was a guru when it came to nutrition. He ate as clean as can be and exercised regularly. You would not think a guy in his physical condition would die like that. Still unknown of the actual cause. I'll find out after the weekend.
Makes me conscious of me own well being. I look at my son and think to myself how much it would hurt him if I left this world. Absolutely nobody should take their life for granted

Sorry to hear that. Yeah i've been very conscious of my mortality this past year or two. I'm figuring out that I can't drive myself crazy about it and to leave that to the powers that be. Also, I can't beat myself up if I don't take every single precaution because its just not possible. We need to accept that our body each day is getting older so to make the best out of each day and appreciate the things we do have and to not take yourself too seriously.

He didn't have a family of his own. No girlfriend, no kids. He had a brother in Italy and a mother in Dallas. The boss had to break the news to her tonight as there is no other formal connection to his mother.

I will. I'm very curious as to how.
When I talked to my other colleague he did mention that he was going through a lot of personal things. We were just talking this morning and he made a comment about how he loved this company and being impressed by all his colleagues and how talented we are. Him going back to working in a clinic was a personal choice. So weird how his last words to us were so endearing and then he's gone
Sorry for your loss...
Funny how somebody of your own age passing away has such a stunning effect that makes you start taking some self inventory

My condolences for your loss.
The back end of my 2014 contained a few unexpected passings so I can emphasize to a degree. Its always strange when somebody with no relative history of medical ailments just suddenly dies as result of something undiagnosed or undetected.
Far too young.

I didn't do it to share my story. I shared it to have people realize not to take life for granted. That a person could have a normal conversation with you in the morning and die in the afternoon with no warning. That a man I knew who was healthy as a horse and knew how to maintain a long healthy life can pass in an instance at a young age. I'm not here for condolences. Which by the way I still do appreciate.

Naw, he was a very wonderful and altruistic guy. Hater seems like a nice guy overall but likes the attention/facebook/twitter life because he reports on it a lot and makes threads about how it affects him.
That's fine. From my perspective, if someone who even remotely affected my life, even in just a professional manner, passed away I would probably not be on ISH 4 hours later talking about it.

Incredible, but I had a somewhat similar story just yesterday. Im working in a hospital, and the colleague that works in shift with me was complaining last 10 days that he gets tired very fast. He had above average temperature in that time, and a pain on his right side of chest.
Yesterday we did an ultrasound on him just to find out that he has like 2 liters of water in his right lung. We sent it on analysis, and when your best expected result is a TBC diagnosis you know how serious that is. We are just hopping its not something cancerous.
The guy is just 45 years old, and is a really good dude. Watching your colleague being your patient, and lying there in fear and crying is ****ing awful.

I don't have anything against you DW. In fact I like your comments and admire you can be upfront as you.
I choose to share things because these things that happen to me are regular life occurrences in todays world. My experiences happens to others as I know some people can relate. It's not the mundane "what did you eat today?" posts. In fact I don't see the difference in sharing that compared to sharing what I post other than what I post involves more dynamic answers. I'm not bragging or insulting people. And as much as I reveal about myself on here, I'm still anonymous in the bigger picture. I like to hear reactions from anonymous sources and how they deal with the same issues. It's not about getting attention. It's about opening a conversation about life.
Gaining attention is more "I'm the greatest on ISH" or, "Please get me in the green." You should focus more on questioning their motives in those threads

Right now those are preliminary results. There's actually going to be a police investigation at the office on Monday to see what may be the cause.
Alls I know so far it was confirmed a heart attack. It could be cocaine? Medications? I'd be curious as to see. He had estranged family. Only a brother and his mom as next of kin. Depression? I'm curious as to how it was triggered

It was a heart attack. He was not a drug user. Did the occasional stimulants. Just a freak incident. My HO is in Dallas so I was not around for the investigation. He was kind of an introvert so nobody was able to give insight. Stress or hereditary are the only explanations.

Most likely congenital yeah. Either some kind of arrhythmia or something called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. If he has a small hole in his heart (happens without symptoms if they're small enough) he could have had a DVT that instead of causing an embolism could have caused an embolism in the coronaries.
But yeah, cocaine can also cause heart attacks like people have said.

honestly i've seen mf'ers that have partied their whole life live until their 90's and healthy workout freak vegetarians die in their <60's. sooo many people randomly get cancer. even people who never smoke but they somehow end up with lung cancer and that dude who smokes a pack a day doesn't :biggums:

Eh I think lifestyle can kill you earlier than normal, but on the flip side for the people who take health to the extreme something is going to kill you are some point regardless of how healthy you try to live.
If you are trying to live as long as possible too, do most people who make it in to their mid to late 90s even want to be alive? the majority of them don't have too much quality to their life.

There's the key word. I don't know how you are around other posters because I don't follow you around from thread to thread. But that's how you are with me. You assume too much of me then you fabricate things to perpetuate your opinion and use it as insults. Did I hit the nail on the head for the rest of you?
I don't and never had twitter or instagram. ISH and FB are the only outlets I communicate through. So when you ASSUME things about people you make an ASS out of U and ME
He's an attention whore potentially no better than Starface except I'd believe Hateraid's drama actually happened whereas Starface is full of shit. He does it in many threads.
If you search "hateraid" and "Facebook" there are 4 pages. Most of which I coincidentally posted in a thread containing the word Facebook. I created two threads. One in which I posted about clearing out my friends list. The other I indirectly quoted from a friend's status to prove a point about Pit Bulls. So basically one and a half times I've posted something regarding Facebook, yet you've dragged it on for years. And you claim I do it in many threads? You say you're not obsessed with me, but open your eyes. When you care that much about what one poster does, that's an obsession
He's a self-righteous douche.
Did YOU just call ME that?
Name one time I've set out to berate someone? I've never once instigated something with you yet you've made several attempts at me
Do you even know what self-righteous means? Sharing one's personal experiences to stimulate a conversation isn't self-righteous. Imposing your opinion, always thinking you're right, and being a prick about it is. When you point fingers you should be pointing in a mirror. If you took a poll on here and asked who is a bigger self righteous douche: deucewallaces or hateraid, you'd win by a landslide. Even people who despise me would say you. You're gattdam nickname is "douchewallaces" for crying out loud!
