but bad circumstances, IQ, etc. were too big of obstacles to overcome. Who were some of these players to you?

T-Mac and Allen Iverson. I really wanted to see these two win a ring.

McGrady because he was on the Rockets and was one my favorite players. AI because he was one of those guys I grew up watching and idolizing.

Greg Oden. I'm rarely hyped for up and coming players, but I felt Oden could have been really special. I thought he would have been the guy who brought the low post big man back. And it seemed he had everything you'd want from a center. Size, strength, defensive ability, raw but promising offensive ability.

And he wasn't just hype. Even in limited minutes, he had a 23 PER as a sophomore. He was nearly 80% free throw shooter, and had insane rebounding and shotblocking ability.

No offense to guys like Demarcus Cousins and Drummond, but I felt Oden would have been a generational player once he had his bearings. A young Patrick Ewing with better rebounding ability.

Kobe.

I always hoped he would end his career as a top 15 all time player

Ben McLemore: Still time here
Derrick Williams: Hmm, maybe just everyone on the Kings

I really, really hope I'm not posting Giannis Antetokounpo in this thread in 5-7 years, or Thon Maker in 10-12

LeBron James. Would be the undisputed GOAT if it weren't for unlucky circumstances.

1. Reggie Miller (he just deserved more success, much more success, 18-20 years of pouring his heart, competitive spirit, work ethic, killer instinct every single game.)

2. LeBron James (as good as he has been, i believe he could have ended up GOAT if he had the supporting cast blessings of Magic, Bird, Kobe, Jordan etc.)

3. Penny Hardaway (freaking injury, this guy was so damn skilled and had the smoothest game i ever seen)

4. Drazen Petrovic (what a shame, he came to the NBA very late and after some years when he finally got a starting job/minutes he was already old and still did very well & could have done even better closer to 26/30 ppg -4-5 rpg - 4-5 apg @ 50-40-90 next season perhaps if his life wasnt taken from him, if he came in young / in his prime with a starting job and ~40 mpg you would have witnessed the modern era Jerry West with even better shooting & IQ. Reggie called him the best shooter he has ever seen and i agree.)

5. Toni Kukoc (he got the accolades, but i always wondered "what if", what if he in his prime wasnt playing with bulls and was a starter / 1st option, how would his numbers look like, i honestly believe he would have been a career averaging 20-10-7 guy, but oh well RINGS aint so bad either)

Achilleas

peja stojakovic (i know he couldn't be the best player, but if he didn't had so many injuries he would have had a much better carrer and play more not to retire at 33 )

and all greek players

vince carter....lack of a brain kept him from being in the kobe tier.

tmac ... injuries and bad teams. Otherwise kobe tier. Peakwise arguably better.

elton brand.... bad supporting casts in an era stacked with all-time PFs(duncan, kg, dirk)

ewing .... never had championship caliber a 2nd option.

kg ... horrible teams

lebron ... 7 years lost on horrible teams. Since he had good(2011-2013, 2015) / decent(2014) teams he's been to the finals every time. If he had a shaq/gasol in his early years we'd now be speaking that he is the goat.

deron williams ... injuries

MJ would have been contested big time for his 6 rings if he didnt die so young.

Beasley, T-Mac, rose.

Guys like len bias and Ralph Sampson were before my time, but I wonder how different things could've been if they had full careers (and lives in the case of bias).

TMac. Favorite player ever by far.

Yao. He was actually my second favorite player in the league when Mac was in Orlando. Them teaming up was a blessing. Damn injuries to the both of them.

18-7-7 on 48% shooting. Led the team twice in scoring and had a trip-dub in another game.

Not bad when you have to all of a sudden are asked (in the Finals) to become 2nd option for basically the first time in your NBA career.

3.Dajuan Wagner
2.Any of the late 90's-early 00's bob Huggins led Cincy bearcats squads..ie kenyon martin,Kenny sat, steve Logan ,demar johnson etc..
1.penny hardaway-had moderate success before injuries , just had lot of potential and marketing at the time was crazy.

Dajuan Wagner.. The greatest hs scorer I ever seen.. Averaged 42.5 ppg hs SR year of hs and 32 ppg for his 4 year hs career. Sickness (chrones disease) basically ruined his NBA career before it started. Would of been at the very least on monta Ellis/ Gilbert arenas NBA level..

Would love to have seen how great LeBron could of been without all the help he gets from the refs.

If he hadn't been treated with kid gloves his entire career, he might not have developed such a total sense of entitlement, and wouldn't be such a flopping, colluding, whining douche.

If everything hadn't been handed to him (including his rings), he might of actually developed some heart and an actual killer instinct. Which combined with his physical gifts could of been a frighteningly awesome thing to see.
