...like this year's Southwest? New Orleans is still 2.5 games back of OKC. It doesn't look like it's going to happen, but it's still very possible.

OP, if it doesn't look like it's gonna happen, how the f*ck is it "very possible"?

My reasoning:
"Doesn't look like it's going to happen" = less than 50% chance.
"Very possible" = let's say 25% chance.
Senario: 5 seconds left in the game. Down by 3. Odds of the game-tying 3-pointer going in are probably around 25%. Although it "doesn't look like it's going to happen," it's still "very possible."

I think you are mixing up "possible" and "probable," because what the OP said made sense.

there have definitely been 4 teams (central did it several times with cleve, indy, bulls, pistons IIRC). Cannot recall all 5 ever though

Thanks for the clarification.
Gonna surely happen next year if the Mavs don't fall of the face of the Earth.

Pelicans now "control their own destiny" becuase they have the tiebreaker against OKC and are tied with them in the loss column.

Yeah, I thought there was a very real possibility OKC would go 0-4 in this four game stretch and, if that happened, the Pelicans would at least temporarily move back into 8th place; but the Pelicans have a pretty tough five game stretch coming up so I don't know. Still, it'd be impressive if it happens.

This is looking like it's going to happen.

I don't think this has ever happened in NBA history, especially with all teams above .500. This is just crazy. They all have to play each other 4 times too.

Not all teams were above .500 which is the case here.
