even after that stress fracture a part of me really really wanted to cavs to draft this guy. If he stays healthy he can become so good.

young 7 footer showing explosiveness, balance and good footwork after a serious injury is not impressive ? :facepalm

People are so quick to have knee jerk reactions. I want him to be good, but saying it's impressive to see him go up against a trainer who is over 6 inches shorter than him in just contact drills is pretty ignorant.

NBA Teams should red-shirt their rookies (and keep them on the main roster) and let them debut a year after NBA Level Conditioning, a year to focus on refining skills, and being able to the pace of the NBA up close and personal.
Not all teams should do it, but I'm sure some rookie year busts would benefit strongly from it. Anthony Bennett sure would of have.

Footwork?
He looks horrible. Travelled and missed the dunk on the first clip. Off balance and missed a little finger roll in the second. Third clip was just some lazy hook.
Not saying he sucks but whoever released those vids should be banned from any practice sessions.

He's backing down a 6-3 guy that isn't in the NBA and he still missed the dunk. lol
I hope he turns out to be good but that video doesn't show it.

Drills against coaches aren't meant to simulate in-game situations. They are used to refine skills through repetition. It's like nobody here has ever played a sport. The fact that he's had all season to refine his post game and drastically improve his jumpshots shows it's working and that there's promise he's gonna be dominate for his age in his rookie season.
When he's fully cleared from his foot injury he'll start practicing with the team and start banging bodies with real big men.

I have no idea who that is but he better be destroying 6-7 defenders in the post. Unless that's Chuck Hayers or Lebron.

I'm not gonna say that he looks bad from the clips, but these particular clips are nothing special. Travelled and still missed dunk in the first one..

A good post.
There are exceptions though. Some players hit the ground running from the get go.
Take Mirotic for instance, he's a fairly polished 24 year old rookie.
A good post..
It's a silly post. A whole year to get in condition? And explain how refining your skills can't be done if you aren't sitting out. :biggums:
Mirotic was a stash euro. He played overseas. How is that comparable?

If you can refine a skill in this tight NBA Schedule with the harsh travels and potential of injury then props to you. But the thing is that doesn't happen, maybe with experienced veterans, but when you're a rookie trying to adjust to the long and grueling NBA Season it just doesn't happen.

Even 5 years of conditioning won't turn Anthony Bennett into an NBA quality player. He was one of the worst reaches ever for a number one pick.

Definitely!
To me he's not a project. The better question will be is he a top five center next year. In two years he will be the biggest, deep post power player in the game. Top three in blocked shots. Top five in rebounding.

We might actually see some good big men in the future years. Him and Noel, Gobert, Randle, Okafor, Towns, maybe Porzingis, Kaminsky and Stein if they pan out at NBA level. Add the ones already in the league and it could be really interesting.

Maybe WCS, Thon Maker(2016 draft?), +Whiteside, Dieng(maybe?), Mirotic for sure.
The big men are coming back  The scoring from PF/C positions is going to increase exponentially.
I'm really excited for next season.
The raw talent from this draft get an off-season, Parker and Randle come back, Embiid will be starting. The playoff race in the West will be even harder... Next season will be even better than this one.

If these videos were the only clips of Joel, yes it would not be too impressive. But again, context matters.
Embiid showed a lot of moves in college that garnered comparisons to dare I say it, the Dream himself. He gets injured, and then these videos arise. So yes, in that sense, I am impressed. I now know that clearly Joel is on his way back. He looks strong, athletic, and he is a legitimate 7 footer and around 270-280lbs.
Noel is rightfully garnering all the attention in Philly these days, but if Embiid played 1 on 1 and let people in the gym, he might out sell the games themselves. :lol
Bottom line, Hinkie haters, things are looking up in Philly. With a probable 3 more 1st rounders, perhaps 2 being in the lottery, and maybe even the Lakers pick to make it 4 1st rounders, I am pumped.
When I look at those 7-8 seeds with no chance in hell of ever competing for a title anytime soon, I know we are on the right path.:applause

He would do well to study Wilt, and 76ers history in general. You can't go wrong taking notes from the the greatest 76er center of all time.

i was actually impressed by his movement fluidity and the fact that his footwork is really good after allegedly playing organized ball since he was 16-17. A quick first step and fluidity in a legit 7 footer is impressive for me, especially after injury.

Not for someone his size:facepalm
And athleticism at that size should be judged more on quickness, balance, and strength than leaping ability imo.
