View Full Version : For college students, when did you realize bookstore books are overpriced?

I remember buying my books from the bookstore the first two years of college. By my junior year, I realized some tricks. Borrow the books from the library (those who were available) and just copy them. I remember a book for my sociology class being $70 and I only needed a chapter. Spent $3.60 copying that chapter and aced the class. Some people actually bought the book in my class :lol. I remember buying my Thermodynamics book and the thick solutions manual for nearly 70% of just the book on campus. The only downside is some classes are very specific in terms of textbooks and they are hard to find at times and the books they sell are way overpriced.

You should realize it when you're in High School.
Kids get in tens of thousands of dollars in debt over college. Simpletons.

I realized that most books are available as torrents...didn't spend a penny this semester on books and passing every class with B's and A's

1998 but you can find pretty much anything online for free these days. That or rent it out from your library for a few months.

I feel bad for science majors. Their books are ridiculously priced

Usually the previous editions are practically the same as the current ones. You can save a chunk of money, just as long as there is not key codes involved.

A lot of my coursework never used textbooks which was really nice. Mostly just lectures and projects. A lot of times I would buy older versions of the textbook and just get homework questions from classmates. Usually the text stays the same but the questions get changed.
The whole went my entire associates degree without buying a single text book. Now I'm renting textbooks off of Amazon.
knew it was a scam on day 1. it's pretty funny and sad that universities all pretend to promote self-righteous ethical codes while they all buttf--k students by enforcing unnecessary text book changes every year, shamelessly milking your poor asses for every possible drop of money that you don't have. :lol
